The Drake Diner is a staple of the Drake University campus and Des Moines community. They deliver consistent and good diner food - breakfast, lunch and dinner. On my most recent visit we had a waffle and the southwest chicken salad. However, my go-to is usually the meatloaf sandwich. You can't go wrong if you want a true diner experience... More

I had the French toast, my wife had an omelet. It was 10:00 am on Sunday morning. Place was packed. We sat at the bar. Surprisingly service was quick and food was great and a little different. Nice dinner feel and reasonably priced.

I am weeks out from knee surgery and cannot do the "stoop and swoop" maneuver required to use a booth. We were told all tables were taken by a large party. So there, done and done.

I lived in Des Moines for three years and have visited the city dozens of times since then. Why have I not been here before? I really like this place. First start with the curbside appeal. The dinner is an oversized silver Airstream-like building that is reminiscent of the 1950's look with the black and white checkered pattern running along... More

For a Diner this is one of the best I have been to. Tired after a day of touring holiday homes and shopping. Had Hot apple toddies, Cup of soup, and apple butter bread pudding. Great end to a great day. Will go back before leaving Des Moines for breakfast and lunch. So refreshing to not be in a chain... More

Five of us arrived about 10 am on a Sunday and had a 25 minute wait but we had been told 30 so we were pleased. It was a very busy place. The noise level was moderate due to many people and clanging dishes in a small place. They were serving breakfast and lunch at 10:30 when we ordered. Most of... More

Drake Diner has been my favorite restaurant in Des Moines for almost 10 years. I don't think the menu has had any significant changes over the last 10 years that we have been eating there, but that's ok, as they have a great variety of diner food. I love the club, but the burgers are great too. My kids love... More

What can I say???? proximity- close and convenient. service- attentive and personal in a good way. Food/quality- lots to choose from and mostly everything i have tried has been good or great. The price is mid range and the portions are plentiful. I will keep going back again and again and again
