My husband and I ate lunch at the Maid-Rite after taking the John Deere factory tour in Waterloo. We had plans for a larger supper later in the day, so we opted to share the original Maid-Rite basket. The "loose meat" sandwich was delicious as were the fries that accompanied it. The diner was clean, the servers were friendly and... More

This is a local historical treasure. An actual diner that has been there for 70+ (?) years. It is the same as it was in the 1950's when I went there with my Grandpa. Loose meat sandwiches AKA Maid Rites that come wrapped in waxed paper with their logo. Real Maid Rites are best served with dill pickles and mustard.... More

Don't go here if you don't like talking to the stranger sitting next to you. Don't go here if you don't like sitting on old fashioned soda shop stools. Don't go here if you prefer aioli over mayo. This is the real deal. Come for a cup of joe and eggs with a side of toast done right but not... More

Charming little building where they make use of every inch of space. The stools give this a neat feel. The service was friendly and quick. The breakfast tasted like eating at home. Very well cooked eggs, hash browns and toast. I would most certainly return.

Had breakfast at this original Maid Rite property. Absolutely spotless kitchen (and you can see it from every seat in the house) Friendly and efficient staff (of two, and whose combined age might have been near 140 years--but who cares). Fantastic American Fries ("Can I get those with onions? Of course! Cooked through or crunchy?") If you every want to... More

If you haven't had a Maid-Rite yet here is the place to check it off your list. Get the bigger size with pickles and onions and mustard. Dont forget a slice of pie.

I had the breakfast special. Eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast were all done very well. The home made sticky buns look amazing. My only complaint...the staff just wasn't very friendly.

Have to visit when I go home. It's nostalgic! Love the maid rite so good and basic food. The diner feel is special and reminds me of home.

Stopped here on a recommendation by a local. It's a diner with only a row of stools along the counter. The wait staff were friendly and obviously knew everyone else in the place. Breakfast was OK - the toast and bacon were good but the cheese omelet was just an omelet with a couple of slices of processed cheese instead... More

Had lunch there. Great friendly staff, very reto look. Lunch counter setup which I have not seen in years. The specialty was the loose meat sandwich. It was good but don't know if I would run back for more. Pies however were really good. Good menu outside of the specialty. Defiantly a no frills lunch place for good food

Thank Robert K
