As always, we had a great time at the restaurant with their giant buffet with the addition of shrimp and prime rib, but was extremely disappointed when they ran out of the prime rib just before we got to it that night. The rose for the wife and the show later was awesome, as well.

Everything was delicious. I only wish we had been able to try more of it before we were too full. Save room for desert!

We went on a Saturday evening and they had the buffet in the basement going. Excellent food! They had home made noodles, several meats including their famous chicken. Great place for a relaxing dinner. (Side note: If you go on day they don't have buffet going, have the family style. It is really good too!) Make sure you get a... More

Too often while visiting Amish country, restaurants claim "real Amish cooking." The Blue Gate has good food and friendly staff but its just that, good food, not great and definitely not something to write home about. We ate there on 2 occasions, just to verify that our first visit wasn't a bad day experience. I had meatloaf which was below... More

My husband and I made a trip to Shipshewana and decided to do the dinner/theater bundle option at the Blue Gate. We were extremely happy with our choice and recommend that people eat around 4:00 so you are not rushing for the 7:00 p.m. show of your choice afterwards. Great that the theater and restaurant are in the same building.... More

We took a day trip to Shipshewana, for our first visit. It is like taking a trip back in time + shopping!! We were starved by the time we decided to eat. Blue gate is a true pleasure. My favorite from the buffet style meal ( usually not my choice of eateries ) was the chicken noodle soup. The waitresses... More

If you like buffets, and Amish style cooking this place is for you. The fried chicken was a high point for me. Roast beef was good. So was the ham. Deserts were ok. We liked the peanut butter spread and the home made bread.

The food was ok. It was a little expensive for what you get. We had the all you can eat family style dinner. The chicken was ok. The roast beef was very good. Drinks were included which was a savings of some other places I have been similar to here.

Thanks for coming! If you prefer a little more variety than the all-you-can-eat Family Style Dinner, I'd suggest coming when we have our buffet up and running! Tons of choices, and always many of our favorites! Hope we can host you again sometime soon! More

I took a Tour Group to the Blue Gate Restaurant for a delicious Amish lunch. The service went smoothly and all the people in our group enjoyed themselves. I would recommend calling group sales to set up for your church, club or larger family group. So much to see in Shipshewana!

Description
When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from
