I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Port Drive In closed this autumn for good. The building has been for sale since summer and still is in early 2017. Always a great place to go. If you missed it, I'm sorry for your bad timing. Probably the best home-made root beer I ever had.

This is not fancy food but it is friendly with great service and food like there was in old drive-in restaurants. Hot dogs, hamburgers, great root beer, etc. Great for kids or for anyone to get a quick lunch.

Been stopping here for a frosty cold mug of root beer after hiking or beaching at the dunes since I was a kid in high school in the 70's.

We passed by this place often and finally stopped in last month. Huge selection of ice cream and shake flavors. Very friendly staff and quick courteous service. We will now stop in every time we are in the area.

The Port is a throw-back root beer stand with good food but you go there for the experience. There are not many opportunities to have the waitress come to your car ... then bring a "dog" and a mug of beer and hang the tray on your car window. Our you can even try a Green River, for those who... More

Car-hops, jute boxes, malted milk shakes, chilly dogs, green rivers, and root beer. OMG! I must be dreaming! Fantastic place. Bring the kids to see what 'cruising' was all about!

We have visited here often while traveling to the Indiana Sand Dunes. Every time the food is delicious and my favorite is the fish and chips. My son enjoys the burgers and crinkle cut fries.

This is not a place you go for fantastic gourmet food- it's a place you go for the experience. It's an old-fashioned 1950's place that serves good burgers, chili cheese dogs, BBQ pork etc. The best things are the beverages- homemade root beer, fresh fruit milkshakes etc. Sadly, it is up for sale so this may be The Port's final... Stopped for ice cream on a Sunday afternoon. We love our drive in in our home town, so we decided to check the Port out. Hadn't been to the town or the place before. The waitress suggested we go inside, since it was cooler. Bad idea. It smelt strongly of grease and all 50+ years the place has been open.... More

If you like inept highschool girls serving you sub-standard food cooked by highschool kids then this is the place for you. I went here in the early 70's when I was a kid. It's still a place just for kids. Enough said.
