I was looking for a new place for our wedding anniversary dinner. Turns out we have tried most steakhouses in the area, so it was time to head out further. I spotted this one on Yelp, and it looked pretty good.
Good call.
Ambiance wise,...this place has it nailed. The sound system is so good it sounded like they had live music, and no, I'm not kidding.
The walls are covered with French and Italian art images, wine, life, very dark wood, nice ceiling structure, NICE BATHROOMS that were clean and well-cared for. A big fireplace on the north wall which wasn't in use since it was late spring and too warm for it, but it looks like it could be a nice feature in the cold of winter.
Service wise, it was also an outstanding experience. We had Sal as our server, and he was perfect - attentive, made sure our food was good, pleasant, polite, and just an all-around great server who got a tip that matched that effort.
Now on to the food. We considered an appetizer, but since we were a party of two, most of them are too large for us. They looked really tasty. You have your choice of a regular salad, a Caesar salad, or a "beautiful soup." I asked if the Caesar salad came with anchovies and it didn't, but they would be happy to add some and some were in the dressing. We asked for the anchovies to be added, and they were. Now THAT'S a Caesar Salad - it was very tasty, with a garlic toast for the crouton - my suggestion is to break that up and distribute it over the salad by the way.
I had their large filet mignon, which is aged around 40 days and was just wonderful, melt in your mouth, char grilled where you could taste the char on the steak, and a wonderful, properly cooked piece of Filet. I had it with their wilted spinach, which was also appropriately portioned and tasted great.
My wife had their "Crabby Steak" which was steak accompanied by soft shell crab. My wife is a big fan of seafood, and this was her first time with soft shell crab. She liked her dish which was served with a side order of mashed potatoes which were accompanied by spinach.
We ordered a bottle of Cabernet to accompany the meal, which was quite good.
Other things to consider:
This place is somewhat old school - no online or email reservations, and don't leave it on the phone because they can't be sure they'll be able to accommodate you. What does that mean? We were there on a Monday (typical slow day for most restaurants, and this WASN'T A SLOW DAY. The place wasn't slammed with a line, but it was VERY FULL.
So my advice, make a decision to come here, and call several days in advance to get your reservation in the book.
I can see why some people say they live here - the food was fantastic, the service was exceptional, and the place is very nice.More
