We have never had a bad meal at Thayer Bros. The entire staff is friendly. Mrs. Thayer is a sweetheart, and does her own cooking. She makes a point to stop and talk at all the tables. Best little hole in the wall restaurant in town.

We ordered the Muffaletta sandwich and a chicken sandwich. The meat was fried to death on a grill, tasteless and little to no muffaletta on it. I asked for more Muff and the waitress hesitated big time. She went in the kitchen to get it and we heard the cooks yelling at her in English and Mex. The loudmouthed cooks... More

So,we had a $25 voucher for this place that we won in a charity bowling raffle for a cancer patient. We were so looking forward to going here we had seen some decent reviews and were looking forward to great home cooking and a nice atmosphere. We arrived and were seated immediately. The place is tiny perhaps about 16 tables... More

Tried this little hidden gem for the first time tonight. I have to honestly say that this is a favorite of mine. I love how "old school" this place is. The checks are all hand written, It's small, homey, friendly, quit. It felt like I was having a meal at a relative's house. The Food was home made, and the... More

Stopped in for lunch while traveling through the area. Delightful family-run restaurant with amazing food. Pick a daily special, get the soup, & save room for dessert.

Everything is made from scratch, or so it seems. The only complaint I have is that the beef they use in their stroganoff needs to be trimmed more thoroughly, as mine had a fair amount of fat/gristle. The flavor was terrific, as was everything else.

The Thayer family and staff have a magical formula for providing a mouth watering home cooked meal for the right price in just the right kind of family atmosphere. If you are a local, I need say no more. If you are passing through Joliet or have not eaten here before...go tonight!

If you like homemade food, this is the place for you. Dinner, lunch, soup, salad or dessert, they are delicious! They have been a land mark in Joliet forever. They have served the Bears!
