Food was good, service quick, a small intimate chapel turned small intimate restaurant. We loved it and will DEFINITELYreturn when we go back thru this area again !
This place is one of my top places to eat. I'm first a fan of good service and Gwen the waitress is second to none in this area. Then comes the the food. OMG, OMG!!!. The baked goods that come out of the kitchen are nothing but heaven. Your meal prepaired by Dan the chef is spot on every time.... More
This restaurant is little pricey but well worth it. The meals are excellent and the restaurant is an old quaint church.
Holy Mackerel is a great find in our tiny town of Elizabeth. The restaurant is located in an old, tiny church that Dan and his wife have tastefully and eclectically decorated. Definitely call for a reservation before you go - in the off-season they may stop serving early. There is a tin ceiling, which can be loud, but the food... More
We arrived early one evening during an almost total fog drive from Chicago, on our way to Eagle Ridge Resort. What an incredible surprise! This little town in the middle of no where with a restaurant that looks like a church but has charming decor, an interesting history and OMG the best food! We ate so much with the appetizers,... More
Grew up in Elizabeth and so glad to have this tasty place to come home to. The flatbread app is delicious, the salads and soups good, warm rolls, and delicious seafood. I get the walleye every time. My boyfriend fell in love with the mac and cheese. Rarely room for dessert, but those are homemade and rotate, I believe. The... More
Twenty years ago we were married in a church in Elizabeth and years later it has now turned into a restaurant. The building is small but very interesting as to how the owners have decorated and re-arranged the main level into an eating establishment. I ordered the walleye and I have to say, in my nearly 70 years on this... More
What a gem! I had asked a Galena resident for a restaurant recommendation and that led us to this charming, culinary delight. Interesting menu choices, each delicious! We enjoyed heirloom tomato soup, Canadian walleye and stuffed chicken breast, holy macaroni (best ever!) and shared mixed berry pie. Definitely indulge in the dessert. It is all heavenly.
. On the recommendation of the our innkeeper, we tried Holy Mackerel for the first time. Everything was perfect from start to finish. From the quaint atmosphere to the friendly service, from the appetizer to desert. I had the prawns which were the best I've ever had. My husband had the filet which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. There was... More
