First time trying Italian Beef in Chicago, came here after seeing it on a food channel show. Beef and peppers were very good, I was told dipped was the only way to go. Will get it "wet" (gravy on inside only) instead of dipped next time, bread just too soggy for me.

Service fast and good, reasonably clean. Beef was okay... nothing special. Probably will try another place in the future.

Al's is terrific. They pack the philly full of beef and dip the whole thing in aujus. It was kind small with only about 8 tables but they weren't that busy when we went. They have pictures all over the walls of famous people that have eaten there.

We saw an episode on the travel channel that included this place and had to try it! Lives up to the reputation of #1! So delicious, and love that they dip the sandwich in au ju! We will be back on our next visit!!

Saw this place on a Food Network show about great Beef Sandwiches in Chicago so we decided to try it when we were in town. We were not disappointed. It really is tasty, sloppy and juicy. Fries were very good too. Get your sandwich and then go to the Cubs Game. Perfect!

Al's Italian Beef is great, a fabulous place to stop on your way to see the Sox play. Prepare to get greasy and to have your hands smell all night from the gravy but man is the sandwich great. Yeah you smell the gravy on your hand for hours but that's all part of the enjoyment. Best Italian Beef ever.... More

Sorry, just didn't like their Italian beef sandwich. No flavor, bread was soggy (even thought we ordered it dry), and just not what we expected. Didn't have time to one somewhere else

The place is a bit more of a Dive than I expected. I had read it was small, but it really is VERY small (seats for maybe 20 ??). The sandwich was very good. Everyone at our table was satisfied. Great stop if you want something quick (5mins to get your food) and then head back out.

Stopped in with my brother about a week ago for a quick bite. Both of us have many, many years of enjoying Italian beef, combos, etc, all over the city and some suburbs. For both of us, this was the worst we've had, ever. The grim shreds of beef had little flavor, and seemed like it had been held for... More

The best beef in Chicago is at Al's Beef. Great french fries, Italian sausage and for a real treat, get a dipped combo sausage and beef with sweet and hot. Not quite the ambiance of the original Taylor street location but the food is just as great.
