Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really amazing hot fudge sundaes that come with a large pitcher of hot fudge. A huge variety of sundaes and other desserts that look great and taste even better!

What an experience. Yes it’s all about being in America and the ice cream. But the staff here were so nice. We visited here for the ice cream and the experience and we were not let down. Anyone on holiday in Chicago. Take a trip...here on the train. Well worth it. Fantastic place.More

I love this place. The ice cream is delicious and breakfast ice cream ought to be the way of life everywhere. The candies took me back in time. The neighborhood is vibrant and busy but it feels safe. The staff are helpful and congenial. The...neighborhood is very walkable and "scooterable" and I suggest either over driving. This is the one place I always visit when I'm in Chicago. I need to get back there; visiting Margie's is good for the soul.More

Such a unique place! Literally felt like i was back in time as the interior seems like it’s never been changed for over 50 years. They have assortments of in house made chocolates , and some pretty insane desserts on the menu. The ice cream...scoops are extremely generous. To the point where one scoop is enough. Not complaint though! The price range is definitely worth it as i have been to other places where it would have been double Or even triple prices for the serving size I had. We went on a Sunday evening and the place was packed with people waiting outside for carry out or a table to sit. Carry out is extremely quick. I feel like this is a chicago staple and definitely should be visited for the treats and the ambiance.More

My wife, children and myself enjoy this delightful place today for delicious ice cream treats. I had the best root beer float, while the family enjoy various sundaes. My 8 year old who normally doesn't eat much ice cream ate an entire banana split with...a side of extra strawberries. He killed it(!) to our surprise. The vanilla ice cream tasted homemade. This establishment was a childhood favorite of my wife who indicated that it hasn't changed. It was a great experience in this wonderful little parlour. Excellent service, clean, great location.More

Margie's is my "go-to" place for icecream sundaes and milkshakes. They've a large selection of icecream flavors and toppings; and when you walk in the door you feel like you've been transported back to the 50's. Each booth has a jukebox with songs from that...period. Unfortunately none work, but it's fun to flip through the song selections. The downside: seating is very limited and the wait times can be long.More

A lot of history has been written at Margie's Candies. Located at 1960 North Western Avenue, at Armitage, this home-made candy and ice cream parlor has been satisfying customers since 1921. Al Capone stopped by. So did the Beatles. And the Rolling Stones. Did they...order the World's largest Terrapin or the World's largest sundae or the Zombie, the world's largest soda? Margie's Candies, which also has a location at 1813 West Montrose, is open from 9 a.m. to midnight daily. Some people even order a deluxe sandwich before dessert. Tuna salad or chicken salad or egg salad or corned beef or slice turkey or ham or grilled cheese or Italian beef or a 1/4-pound Kosher beef hot dog or even peanut butter and jelly. But it's all about the candy and ice cream, milk shakes and malts, banana splits and sundaes. Candy? Try the creams, toffee, caramel, nougat, fudge, marmalade, terrapins, cherry stemmed cordials, marshmallow, butterscotch, milk chocolate, Kosher dark chocolate. Ice cream? Try cookies and cream, chocolate chip, pistachio, vanilla, strawberry, banana, mint chocolate, cheesecake, New York cherry, butter pecan, coffee, coconut, chocolate, yogurt or sherbet with a topping of hot fudge, butterscotch, caramel, raspberry, strawberry, pineapple, peach or marshmallow. How about the world's largest sundae with a 1/2-gallon of ice cream with flavors from California, Florida and Hawaii? Or the world's largest terrapin with 15 scoops of French vanilla ice cream topped with kettle-fresh fudge and caramel, whipped cream, nuts, bananas and cookies? Or the Zombie, the world's largest soda, with chocolate flavor, French vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, nuts, cherry and cookies? And don't forget to take home a jar of home-made hot fudge and caramel sauce.More

This Chicago institution has been going strong since 1921. The retro atmosphere is fun but the reason for making the trip is the fabulous sundaes: some 50 to choose from, including the insane "Royal George" (25 scoops of ice cream!). The family-friendly restaurant is located...in a safe neighbourhood (Bucktown): about two minutes' walk from the Western station on the Blue Line. There is usually a line-up of customers waiting to be served, but seven plastic Muskoka / Adirondack chairs outside provide comfortable seating while you study the menu. An abbreviated menu is available on the restaurant's website, but does not include prices. For reference, our three-scoop sundaes cost US$8.50 each.More

Margies has such a feel good factor about it. Is it the best dessert you'll ever eat? No. But it is a lot of fun and like stepping back in time. The desserts are huge - 1 would definitely be enough for 2 people to...share. I've been a couple of times and loved being there both times - it is an experience to be had in Chicago if you get the chance.More
