We have heard of Cakes & Ale for years and were aware of all of the accolades. But on this night I would say they were just really good but not great. Service is very good. Drinks are very good. Atmosphere is very cozy. But this is a premiere Atlanta restaurant with premiere Atlanta prices. And for that I would... More

Anticipation can be the bane of existence. Cakes & Ale was referred to in glowing terms by every chef and service professional we spoke to. "If you go to one Atlanta restaurant, be sure it's Cakes & Ale." I would crack wise about the stupid name, but I was assured C & A was serious cooking. Unfortunately, our experience was... More

My wife and I enjoyed a rare dinner date night out at Cakes and Ale recently. It lived up to and exceeded our expectations on this initial visit. The food is simply exceptional in its preparation and resultant taste. The chef's passion and loving touch is apparent in every dish on this limited menu. We started by sharing great fresh... More

I came to Decatur with my sister. While she was attending a meeting, I decided to walk around and see the town. I stopped at The Bakery at Cakes and Ale for a decaf coffee. The staff was very friendly. They told me about some of things to do around the area and gave me a map of the town... More

I love this restaurant. The ambience is relaxed and elegant. The servers/bartends are never in a hurry, but you never feel like you are waiting for anything. The decor is clean and contemporary. The cocktails are interesting.....the food is outstanding. We like to sit at the bar to dine, starting with cocktails, and fresh New England oysters before jumping to... More

Decided to stop into coffee and desserts section of the restaurant! There was only 2 other patrons in there besides us and the staff was very slow. They were busier talking to each other than paying attention to the customers! I got a hot tea, which they had to ask 3 times what I wanted and then never offered cream... More

I was meeting some friends for a holiday lunch. I agreed to Cakes & Ale because we recently read their dinning room was now serving lunch. They are no longer serving lunch in the dinning room and only serve lunch in the Bakery. The Bakery is cute but very small. Service was good. My $14.00 grain bowl was very good,... More

Wow. While on business in Atlanta, I met a friend who lives in Decatur for dinner here. It was lovely. Cocktails may not be a strong suit here but the wine list is good. The food was great. We started with snacks of roasted almonds with rosemary and fresh olives: both delicious. We split the gnocchi: wonderful pillows of goodness... More

I came here with a friend and we were both delighted with the very special and delicious dinner we had, including great service. We shared all courses except dessert which was a perfect decision. We started off with the crispy arrancini, then had the quail and then the seabass with the creamy polenta on the side. It was a feast!... More

Dinner was awesome. We started with the squash (with pomegranate) dip. Delicious. The entrees were good but nothing spectacular- two of us had the roasted chicken and the other had the pork. Maybe next time we will go for one of the seafood entrees. So, for the awesomeness-1, Heather provided great service AND 2, the sticky toffee pudding. This became... More

Description
A "true foodie find" in Downtown Decatur, chef-owner Billy Allin's American "separates itself" from the usual culinary scene with "fresh", "vivacious" food that "epitomizes the farm-to-table movement", plus "unrivaled" cocktails in a refined, "unassuming" setting.
