A great Cuban sandwich and a café con leche ( like café au lait ) It is Cuban coffee with scalded milk, most people take it with sugar. My favorite is a pressed Cuban sandwich and a Coke. Try other items on the menu, when you look around the restaurant look to see what others are ordering. You may not... More

The restaurant was supposed to be of Cuban food....I am cuban and the food was just ok. The restaurant has a great location in heart of Ybor city right in their main plaza. However, you can't even see their name on the outside due to the lack of new paint and much needed touch ups. I think the restaurant could... More

This is a place to come to if you want great Cuban food that's not expensive. They have good service and it's centralized in downtown Ybor city.

Stumbled on La Tropicana on a recent trip. It is centrally located on 7th street in Ybor and the outside patio is fantastic for people watching and dining if you have your pet in tow. The waitstaff was great, very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing - We got the egg and chorizo sandwich, sweet maduros, guava and cheese... More

Whenever I go to Tampa I try to grab breakfast or lunch at La Tropicana. Before you go, search the history of the restaurant. It has a very interesting past. Enjoy!

I stopped in to la Tropicana Cafe for the first time today. I was with a friend on a photo shoot of Ybor City. He had been before. Tampa has many great restaurants for Cuban food and this one is also excellent. I had the La Tropicana Salad which included ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and Spanish olives with their special... Service was good. However, we all ordered picadillo and it was so salty we had to send it back. The replacement palomillo steak was better, but by the time it arrived we had finished our sides. So, all in all, not a good experience.

Went here for lunch. Was trying reglardless of the mixed reviews. I got the Cuban and delived crab. But sorta disappointed. Cafe con leche was good and the guava pastry was good. Waitresses were just bickering with eachother the whole time I was there about being short staffed. Don't think I will go back.
