Was just in Florida and a friend recommended we check this place out; I'm so glad we did. Ordered the gator ribs, blackened shrimp, Skpper's Platter-everything was delicious. The blackened shrimp was VERY spicy so if that's not your thing, be forewarned. The environment is...More

My wife and I have dined at Tampa's two most noted restaurants, Columbia and Bern's Steakhouse, so we decided to try something different. That isn't the proper word for Skipper's Smokehouse. Friends urged us to go there, insisting we had never experienced anything like it,...More

We wanted to try some gator so we came down to Skippers. I'm not huge on sea food but the food here was great. Clam chowder was great, gator nuggets were super tasty but the highlight was the key-lime pie. Seriously. Try it. Right now....More

We ordered seven different items and shared. Everything was great. Best key lime pie I have ever had. Great to bring out of town guests.

this place is awesome. Famed by Man V Food and gator ribs. From the outside I must be honest it looks like a run down shack, however once inside you immediately realise this is part of the décor and the feel of the place. I...More

Since 1980, this ramshackle venue has been presenting the best Blues, Folk, Rock & Jazz Bands in Tampa Bay. And the restaurant is darn good too. Fresh oysters, alligator & my favorite the Blackened Grouper Reuben. Go on Thursday Night order up a pile of...More

The place looks like a dive, but often those are the best hidden gems. Not so here. I had the jerk chicken. It has a little bit of an odd taste to it, but edible. My husband had the Philly, which was okay. My sister...More

The atmosphere is very laid back and had that gulf beach dive bar feel. The food is amazing with generous portions. I would recommend the grouper rueben as a must try.

Now celebrating 34 smokin' years, this venerable Tampa Bay landmark was purchased by three Air Force buddies in 1980 who met while stationed in Alaska and presumably sought to get as far away from the frozen tundra as possible. In the years since, Skipper's has grown from a small smokehouse takeout operation with a casual Sunday jam to a full-service restaurant and much-loved purveyor of world-class music. The architecture is a smorgasbord of "cracker" and islandy-Key West styles with overturned boats, wooden walkways, large murals dot the landscape while artfully rusted walls contain the sounds of revelry. In the Oyster Bar, a vintage moonshine still hangs over the bar while in the dining room, weathered posters tinted by neon lights add varying hues of color and atmosphere.
