One of the first restaurants I visited in Fernandina. Food is good and they have a nice variety to choose from.

Great BBQ place! Very generous servings, friendly staff and the sauces are tasty as well. Dog friendly on the patio.

Lunch at the Happy Tomato Cafe was perfect for this "mixed marriage" couple. Carnivorous husband loved the pulled pork barbeque sandwich and vegan wife loved the tofu-tomato-cucumber-guacamole sandwich. The service? The sandwiches were literally being prepared while the cashier made the change. The setting in the outdoor cafe had perfect ambience for a January day in the South.

We needed a little break from all the seafood we have been eating on Amelia Island, and had an urge for some BBQ. Of course, there was a little hesitation about this little place, but, as we found out, our hesitation was unwarranted! It is right in downtown Fernandina Beach. Small dining area inside, with most tables on outside. It... More

A virtual deluge of rain on the day my wife and I decided to go to the Happy Tomato, a small place with a few indoor tables, and a few under regular roof outdoors, and then a courtyard with lots more seating. It was worth the trip in the monsoon! You can enter the restaurant from the sidewalk in front... More

Sandwiches, rib platters. So good. Tender. Smoked just right. Cute little deck and courtyard under big trees. Really is s hidden gem!

It's as if freedom is a tree. They take rainbows, sunshine, and puppy tail wags and smoke those things with wood from the tree of freedom and end up with ribs by some act of voodoo or another. At any rate, I have put a lot of ribs into my face in my 43 year sojourn in this planet and... More

Stumbled across Happy Tomato walking through a parking lot. The smell of the smoker attracted me and steered me in the right direction. Ordered the Club on Rye for the wife and I had the pulled pork. It had perfect flavor and just enough smoke, not overbearing. The sweet sauce was great and the spicy sauce was award winning. I... More

Looking for quick lunch and found it here. No crowd, easy order at the counter. Super quick service. Delicious BBQ sandwich with potato salad. Attractive courtyard to eat and relax in. Will plan on returning again.

Cafe was recommended by locals. Very nice courtyard with lots of shade. We had large salads with smoked turkey: delicious! Menu had far more than just BBQ that cafe is known for (smelled fantastic). Reasonable prices.

Thank Jim E
