Freds is right next to a marina on the Thames River in New London. It is a seasonal restaurant, with an order/pick up window and outside picnic table dining only. Great food, fresh seafood of all kinds as well as burgers and ice cream for the non-seafood lovers.

Every year I stop in for my favorite fish sandwich and fries. Fred's Shanty is a busy place in the summer, but living near by, I have the advantage of the spring and fall times that they are open. I believe they have the best fries around! Pequot Avenue offers a great drive, so stop at Fred's for scenery and... More

We went to Fred's with a group of about 12. Seating is at picnic tables on each side of the restaurant, and we had no trouble finding seats. The food is fairly inexpensive ($8 for 4 chicken tenders, cole slaw and fries), and it is plentiful. Mine was good, but not outstanding. The place sits right on the water, so... More

I eat here a few times every summer for the past several years. A little overpriced in my opinion but would still recommend stopping here. Outside seating only here so plan accordingly. Service is what you would expect from this type of eatery. Food is always hot, fresh ans cooked to order. Try it out !

We found this little hole in the wall mom and pop shop just driving the area. It was the best seafood that we have had here in New England. The price point was inexpensive for the products. Excellent value and taste! Really glad we stopped. Clam strip dinner and lobster roll.

A great place for a good clam roll (strips) and onion rings. Crispy, fresh and great taste. Nice outside seating overlooking Thames River. Best time to go is in off hours, otherwise plan to wait in line.Open for lunch and dinner from March until late October. "Famous since 1972".

They have the best chili cheese dogs anywhere and my kids say the same about their fries. Very reasonably priced and always busy, but you can call ahead and order

Great place to eat during the summer when craving typical summer foods (hotdogs, burgers, chicken, ice cream etc..). Nice atmosphere and prices are reasonable.

This is where you find the true American rich or poor. You will never know if the guy in line in front of you is worth 10million or ten dollars. It does not matter, it is were to go to get a tasty meal and a view of the river.

I was designated as lunch run guy while the family was waiting nearby after doing yard work and helping out family in the area. Fred's Shanty was recommended for burgers, dogs and fries and it was a great choice. Because I was ordering for 5, they gave me a box to go and everyone seems friendly as you watch the... More
