Despite having booked a table and received a confirmation email, we arrived to be told that we didn't have a booking. It was at our insistence that the person on the desk checked the book and found that our booking was in fact there. She did apologise and show us to our table but it wasn't a good start!
The decor is lovely and the staff were nice but the service was unbelievably slow. It was late lunch and they weren't very busy however; the meal took ages to come and it was on the cold side. It appears that the food is cooked upstairs so by the time it was brought downstairs, left on a dresser of some sort and then eventually brought to our table it wasn't hot like it should be. The portion size was very small. One of us ordered coffee and dessert but the coffee never came. We eventually had to ask for it again.
This restaurant is quite pricey so you would expect the food and service to reflect what they are charging - sadly this isn't the case. It's a lovely venue so hopefully things will improve soon.

Visited this evening for early dinner.
Beautiful decor loads of staff.
Menu was limited but our starters of salmon and chicken wings where great.
My husband had pizza which was dreadful..we had asked the waitress if there was a wood fired oven and she didn't know what that was so we chanced it anyway.. pizza bad and €18... but short rib was amazing.
Husband ordered dessert and espresso ..the espresso arrived and dessert about 10 mins later.. and was not great.
This place looks great but more style over substance.. and lots of staff wandering around aimlessly think they need direction .

Thank you very much for your review. We are very saddened to hear of your negative experience here in The Clermont. This is not the standard we would hope to keep for future guests. Currently, we don't have a wood-fired pizza oven on-site, we are looking into getting one later in the year if possible. We will make sure that our staff are informed of this right away in order to avoid future disappointment for guests. I am very sorry about the dessert not arriving at the same time as the coffee, this may be due to teething problems with our staff in the first few months of opening, we will work on this in order to improve service We are continuing to train staff and develop every week thanks to feedback from guests and hope to create a better standard for future visits. We really appreciate feedback whether it is positive or negative, so thank you once again for that.

Had an evening meal here recently, having had breakfast there previously and enjoyed it. The new Clermont is a really comfortable place, decorated to a very high standard. The menu isn’t extensive, and while the food was good, it was not outstanding considering the prices being charged. The starters were standard enough in all but price. A steak main course at €27 came with four chips. The waitress recommended ordering a side, as there were so few chips with the steak. We have had better meals locally for similar or less, and won’t be returning to the Clermont any time soon.

The food is overpriced. No Smirnoff ice. Tiny portions. The beef sandwich I got was freezing I had to send it back so my partner ate his ribs ( 3 bites and it was gone it was that small ) while I was there with just chips and mayo. No garlic dip?? The food came back again but it was disgusting. This time round they had put the tiniest amount of crispy onions on it that wasn’t on the first one that was supposed to be on it it was almost like an insult. The staff are lovely I feel sorry for them I don’t think the table beside us were happy either. The nice lady host didn’t charge for the wine as a sorry what else could she do. I read the reviews before going but I still wanted to give it a chance and was excited however I could never return. They don’t seem to want to improve judging by the other reviews. I left starving after paying 35 Euro so we went to rocksalt cafe and thankfully they saved the day.

Recently went with a group of 13 work colleagues and was extremely disappointed in the food here, after hearing who owns the property I was sure you would at least get a decent steak but this was not to be. The steak tasted of salt not just that the chef has over seasoned it but more like he tried to cure the steak in it. Now after my starter also being awful I ended eating the celery from other people's dishes who had chicken wings I thought maybe it's me, maybe my pallet is off today but no all 3 people in our party said steak was bad resulting in them covering it in pepper sauce to mask the flavour of the salt.
This was not an option for me , I love a good steak and often would eat it without any accompaniments but here I was thankful for them or I would of went home starving as it was I left hungry.
Back to starter I ordered a chicken Cesar salad. The salad consisted of mostly wilted kale and no croutons and the chicken was burnt to a crisp. What was even more shocking was that when waiting staff seen a full starter being returned they didnt ask why.
Desert was and pear and almond tart that was in all fairness a credit to the pastry chef at last something I was able to eat and enjoy.
After travelling from Dublin I was extremely disappointed in this establishment and could and would not recommend it to anyone.

My Husband booked this for our Anniversary. I cant say I wasnt worried when I read the negative reviews dont let this put you off none in which we experienced. From the minute we walked in the door we were made very welcome every member of staff congratulated us all extremely friendly. I would say that it was the top service that we had ever received. The food was delicious & cooked to perfection. The only thing I would suggest would be to look at the steak for 27e it should include a side instead of 4chips it's very plain for the price you pay. Thank you so much for our wonderful experience we will definitely be returning.

We were a party of two in for lunch on a Wednesday. The place was not busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff on, yet the service was once again absolutely abysmal. Food took over 45 minutes to arrive. The seafood linguine was a bowl of overcooked pasta coated in garlic butter with no seasoning. The salad was fine, so congrats for getting that right. Drinks orders took an age to arrive. I approached the bar at one point to ask if the drinks could be sped up as we had ordered them when the food arrived and we were already finished at this point, the head barman waved his hand and said “yea, I’m getting them now, take a seat please” - 10 minutes later the drinks arrived. It really is bewildering how so much money has been spent on creating a beautiful space for customers to enjoy just to fill it with incompetent and rude management.

I've been 3 times... the staff aren't trained appropriately. the food is overpriced, there isn't enough food served...... the first time I was in, it took the waitress 20 mins to come over to take our order, after we asked the waitress who served us drinks that we were ready to order.... the third time I was in, we left because the same thing happened, we sat there for 30 minutes waiting for a waiter/waitress to take our order. we were watching as the most of them stood around talking to each other. when covid lifts, people are just going to go for cocktails and take selfies. its for the middle class climbers

Very dissatisfied and disappointed. Go for a drink but avoid the food. Decor is fabulous and ambiance is lovely hence the one star. Service is slow, with plenty of staff it was difficult to get a drink and when drink arrived it was wrong but still charged. Starter - dough balls and fresh bread which was nice but no tapenade and hummus was bland. Main course was expensive and pork belly was very very dry, Fish was breaded and pretty bland and tasteless. Steak minion was cooked well but very very small for 27 euro. Pizza was extremely poor with little or no flavour. Felt the whole meal lacked any type of flavour that the price tag demands. Service charge of 21% added on top. Ok for Covid times but not for the level or standard of the meal. Save your money plenty of better places with higher quality of food without the hefty price tag. Local staff were lovely however.

I have visited The Clermont on a number of occasions, always to give it one more chance. I think they have had it now. The decor of this restaurant is absolutely stunning and contrary to other reviews, we found the staff, to be both friendly and attentive. But, we went to The Clermont, to eat. If you like beef, you should definitely go there. My husband eats beef very rarely and I am a vegetarian, so we found the menu very limited. Yes, there was Fish and Chips on the menu and some chicken but if he wanted fish and chips, he would go to Mullins a few doors away. I had the Vegetarian Ragù which was very average to say the least. I also had a side of chunky chips that I had to send back as they were not cooked properly. I was really surprised that the chef did not notice that white slices of semi cooked potatoes were being served. When we were there, we also had a look at The Chairmans menu. This is also predominantly beef based, so we will not be going there. As a vegetarian, I realise that unless it is a specialist vegetarian restaurant, the restaurant will not be just catering for me. I do believe, however, with the rise of flexitarianism, restaurants need to be offering more non meat dishes. A choice between (a poor) vegetarian ragù and gnocchi just does not cut it. But, of course, if you fancy a steak - go for it.

Having booked and which was duly confirmed on the day by phone, we arrived on time as per the email request ( as the advice was they could only keep the table for 15 minutes)
Imagine our surprise when we were kept waiting 50 mins. When we finally got seated we repeatedly asked for water for our table and a bottle of wine, neither of which we received for another 20 minutes. Our meal arrived 2 hours from our arrival.
This is our third visit, having giving this restaurant the benefit of the doubt on the previous occasions which were very disappointing, we really hoped that at this stage they would have ironed out their teething problems.
I would love to see this restaurant succeed, the decor is beautiful and it has so much potential but unfortunately until they get their service, attention to detail and front of house sorted there will be many more disappointed guests.

We visited on a Friday night for a friend’s birthday and were promptly seated. The restaurant and front bar is tastefully decorated it had a really nice vibe to it. We were given a drinks menu and the food menu. Took us a while to order as we felt it was a bit limited....the starters were lovely, I had chicken wings which is my favourite and they tasted exactly like my favourite! However, I ordered the carbonara and to say I was truly disappointed is an understatement. The pasta was undercooked ( and not in the Italian served way) it was far too salty and not from the meat and it was pure watery. My friend had the ragu which came out lukewarm at best. The desserts also were tasty and very unusual.
For such a limited menu I feel that each dish should be cooked and served to perfection each time.
I can not fault the service staff as there were plenty of them milling about all evening and they were very friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was full. I don’t think we’ll be back but it was good to have the experience.

The food was very hit and miss. Although everything was exceptionally presented the food was very bland especially when it came to the fish dishes. The breaded fish and chips was very oily and lacking flavour but in particular the blackened salmon dish was extremely bland. The salmon was cooked well but tasted like very basic salmon and was under seasoned, the accompaniments where awful. The watercress puree has no flavour and the mirin potatoes where like strips of raw unflavoured potato on the plate.
For the meat dishes, we got short rib and the strip loin steak and both where lovely. Again the chips where bland and in this case under cooked. The children got pizzas which they enjoyed, the childrens menu is reasonable and well done.
Overall the place is really done lovely, the staff where lovely but let down by the food and in the end if doesn’t matter how pretty the place is if the food is below par.
I did reach out to the place directly but having had no reply I have decided to post the review

Blackrock is fast becoming a destination for good food in North Leinster and the New and the new and improved Clermont has taken the culinary ball and run with it. Having enjoyed a good piece of meat in its previous incarnation I was looking forward to a return visit when it reopened before Christmas.
From the minute you enter the door, it's clear that this is this something new, a place of quality, where the evidence of the fastidious attention to detail is everywhere. The luxurious quality of the fabrics, the intimate cafe to the front, the generous back Bistro, the natural daylight, the art - that indoor tree - this is not the Clermont of old - this is something new and unexpected with a dining experience to suit everyone and their particular budget.
While we didn't have time or a booking to enjoy the Chairman's Room, we had a delicious lunch in the Bistro, but will be back again soon to treat ourselves to something special upstairs.

My husband & I booked a meal in the chairman’s for 8.30pm on Saturday night, The decor is unreal just perfection and the service and meal was as good, just a fantastic night out , the venue, service, food is first class,
Michelin star quality, not one bad point from start to finish, my husband ordered the 36 day aged center cut fillet and it was one of the best steaks he has ever had & cooked perfectly (medium ) I ordered the short rib and it was so so tender I will definitely order it again, the staff was so friendly and you know they just want to make your night out as perfect as possible, the manager called to our table to check several times during our meal to ensure it was as we expected ( thanks ) their was 3 female staff that greeted us , showed us to our table & waited on our table during our visit & all so so friendly & professional at their job starting with paying compliments to what I was wearing , just really nice young ladies.
This is what Dundalk needed a top quality restaurant, if you’re going to eat out and looking for a 5 star experience this is it.
Next Saturday we will be taking our family out to try the bistro.
