Visited The Clermont last weekend and being honest, this is the 4th or 5th time I’ve been. Each time, I’ve felt the quality of service has let it down, but last weekend really disappointed me. Upon arrival for our booking, there was a family in...front of us in the queue waiting to the taken to their table. The lady working front of house rightly looked after them first but clearly saw that I was also there waiting yet didn’t communicate at all. She then proceeded to bring them outside to their table, which was absolutely fine. However we then stood waiting for 5 minutes waiting on someone to look after us and nobody came back. After another few minutes a group of 4 people came in behind us and decided to act as if we weren’t there and just jumped in front of us. At the same time, the lady working front of house came back in and decided to look after them rather than us and proceeded to bring them to their table, leaving us waiting for another 5 minutes. A young girl eventually came out and looked after us, but it was a shame how it was all handled by the older and I assume more experienced person. As always, the setting, the food and the drink were lovely but this place falls flat on its face when it comes to service, manners, and attention to detail. The lasting memory was the unprofessional lady from front of house along with the group of rude diners, rather than the overall dining experience. This place frustrates the hell out of me because it could be unreal if they just did the simple things right. Manners cost nothing. Treat others how you’d like to be treated.More

Accepting it was first day back but surely there was adequate time to train & prepare staff. After being shown to our seats we waited and waited and waited in the end 40 minutes to place our order. Half the drinks order came first and...we had to grab someone’s attention for the other drinks. When the starters did arrive (after 55 minutes) the food was really good. Then we had another considerable wait (1:45 from sitting down) to get our Main Course as the many staff stood around with in our view avoiding eye contact - again the food was really good. We would love to go back but not sure if we have the patience. This place needs a Maitre’D to take control of service. Get your act together.More

We visited The Clermont as soon as it re-opened in December and found them welcoming and friendly. They had all the protocols in place and we felt quite safe. The meal and service was excellent and it was great to get out the house! Wonderful...evening!More

What a rip-off?! Having eaten in "The Chairman's Room", I had very high expectations for my lunch downstairs in the bar/restaurant. After all, it's the same staff, same chefs, same everything (or so I was told). Even the decor has a similar old school classy...feel to it, modelled no doubt on some of the finer establishments around the world*. And of course, the prices are the same too. But there is one thing definitely not the same, and it just happens to be the reason we were there: the food! I was part of a group and based on what I saw and tasted, I would suggest mediocrity at best. It was no better than than a carvery Sunday lunch, and in some cases worse. The fries were soggy and appear to be cooked from frozen. The calamary was "meh", lacking in texture and the hand of a decent cook. The pizzas were like something out of a box, while the sauces tasted similarly to be out of a jar! Only the burgers were slightly better than their carvery equivalent. But at nearly €20 they'd want to be!!!!! So much about "The Chairman's Room" gives off a sense of pride in what they are doing. There is a real sense of quality. Downstairs is the complete opposite: it's all the glitz, but no genuine class. It's get them in, get as much as you can and give as little as possible in return. Overall: There is certainly an impression that the people behind the Clermont have "notions" (To use an old Irish expression). Those notions work upstairs, but when it comes to their bread and butter downstairs, maybe it's their true selves coming out! *The "classy" bit is if you sit in the main restaurant area. If you don't, you will find yourself consigned to the cattle shed out the back. Looking like it was built in an afternoon by some dodgy cowboys, it's furnished with crappy furniture, a way over-priced half-stocked bar, and has a lovely big door out to the smoking area to let all the heat out.More

In these uncertain times it was so good to see how seriously the team at the Clermont are taking things. We were checked for temp on arrival and we had to sign in the visitors book. We were taken to our booth seating which was...safely cordoned off from other parties but not in an ugly way. We had a wonderful meal and we were looked after by a very helpful server. All in all 5 starts. We will be back soon as we can!More

The Clermont is two VERY different offerings under the same roof: the Clermont downstairs and The Chairman's Room upstairs. They are so different that they warrant two separate reviews. Downstairs is daylight robbery and mediocre at best. For what is on offer, I'd rate McDonalds...above it! Upstairs however is a totally different story and that is what this review is about. Over the last 30 years I have been lucky enough to eat in some amazing restaurants across the world and I have to say my experience in The Chairman's Room is nearly up there with any of them. In fact, with just a little extra push, it would be right there. The food (oh the food!!!), the staff, the decor, everything about it screams class, quality and most importantly a desire to achieve excellence and perfection. Each element compliments the other and they are so close to nailing it! Given time, I think they will. That's pretty much all I have to say about it, other than if you get a chance to visit, do. It's not going to be easy on the pocket, and nor should it be. Quality costs money and my experience here was that every cent is money well spent. I look forward to going back myself :-)!More

It’s ok food wise. I agree with the other reviewers about the atmosphere and decor but their main courses I feel let them down. I actually spoke to someone else who had the same food as me on a different occasion and they... More
