Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went for an early dinner on New Year's Eve. On a busy night, the restaurant did an excellent job. Our servers were attentive and friendly. A couple of times, they had to be reminded about minor requests, but they quickly apologized if they forgot...something. Menu read like a classic steakhouse. There were also appealing daily specials. Although expensive, the price per person was less than some other steakhouses at which I have eaten, while the quality of food was at the same level as those more expensive places. Cocktails were delicious! Highly recommend the cucumber martini. And the dessert cocktails were a nice end to the meal. By-the-glass wine was reasonable, and there was a decent selection. Food was excellent. Shrimp cocktails were beautifully presented, with huge shrimp and a chunky cocktail sauce. Salads were fresh and sizeable; two people could easily share one as a course. And everyone was pleased with their mains: steaks were perfectly cooked, with nice sear; pork loin was juicy and flavorful; pasta was cheesy and not overdone. I highly recommend the "au poivre" style on a steak; the peppercorn sauce was delicious, as were the mashed potatoes. I would say the only downside was ambience. Perhaps because it was a busy evening, we were seated in a room typically reserved for private dining instead of in the main dining room. Although the historical photos on the wall were interesting, the room felt a bit like a hotel meeting room. Overall, a really great meal. Would recommend (assuming one wants a classic steakhouse) and would not hesitate to return.More

A couple of things kept this from being a 5* review. First the appetizers. The broccoli spears were miniature trees! The calamari was flavorful but the presentation was haphazard. Three of our medium rare steaks came out blue rare. Better that than over cooked. We...sent a couple back and they came back perfect. Service was top notch. Nice atmosphere. For the prices charged, the presentation needs to be stellar, and the steaks should be right the first time. Would go back again.More

I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. We were torn between this another long standing steak house in the area. We showed up 15 minutes early for our reservation and were told we would need to wait until our reserved time. That was surprising...because it was early and the restaurant had many open tables at that point. Probably 25-30% capacity at that time. Thought it was odd but ok. We noticed immediately that it was hot at the hostess station and thought that was because it was by the door. Once we got sat, we realized they had doors open to an outside area. One problem. It's still 82 plus degrees outside and the sun has not gone down yet. That was somewhat surprising to see. We saw a few servers putting their hands up to the a/c vents checking to see if any cold air was coming out. It stayed warm through the entire meal. Our server was very good. Super friendly and personable and didn't rush us through our dinner. We both had martinis and they were very good. We ordered the French Onion soup appetizer and it was very good. Large enough for two. My wife and I split the 20 oz ribeye, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The potatoes were good and the spinach was great. I ordered the steak medium and confirmed that would be a warm pink center with the server. The steak arrived and I immediate cut it into a few sections to split with my wife and really wasn't paying attention to the doneness. After a few minutes and more cuts, I realized it was rare. Very rare. Way undercooked. Nowhere near medium. It was really too late to send back at that point and I'm ok on the less cooked side and thought I could find some more done pieces for my wife. I was wrong. It was almost raw all the way through. The steak was tough to cut and had a lot of grizzle throughout. The flavor was good and seasoned well but that' where the positive side ended. I was very disappointed for a 72.00 steak to be under cooked and more importantly, tough and grizzly. The waiter was very attentive and I didn't have the heart to complain. We are fortunate enough to travel around the country and try some of the best steak houses when we go to knew places. This def did not live up to a best steak house in CS. Maybe this was an off night or a one off mistake but when you combine that with the heat, the undercooked steak and weirdness of sitting out front for 15 minutes for no reason, we would not chose to come back here. Wish we would have tried the other place in hind sight. Too bad.More

Of all the places I could've chosen to take my wife out for her birthday, THIS place hit it out of the park! The staff was as courteous and polite as any I've ever dealt with. They took us in as a last-second reservation, they...were on point when the wife's steak was a little more "medium-rare" than she liked (by her standards, not mine...lol), bringing to the table a PERFECT medium-rare ribeye that she absolutely loved. Josh, our server, was probably one of the best wait-staff we've EVER had. He made sure everything was perfect tonight, right down to the dessert. So glad we made the trip.More

I live in Virginia, but when I'm in Colorado Springs I usually have a least one dinner here. I've been eating at Mackenzies for over a decade. When you enter the dining area you can see a few private rooms in the back--and I thought...what a great spot for a celebration dinner. Well last Thursday we finally did it! We held my son's Air Force Academy graduation dinner here. 30 guests attended. The service leading up to the event was top notch -- the manager Linda was prompt and thorough in responding to all my planning questions. The night of the event the waitstaff were professional and friendly. And honest- my math mistake would have cost me an extra $400 on the bill, but the waitress immediately brought it to my attention! They have an event menu with 5-7 entrees with no prices. Everyone could pick their own meal for a sit down dinner. The room holds 50, but it was arranged so that 30 felt cozy. All the meals were excellent - I had the NY Strip. My wife the salmon and my son shrimp scampi. We brought in a cake and the staff cut it and plated it for the guests. The ambiance of walking into the room with the indirect lighting, reflecting off the stone walls set just the right mood. And the privacy allowed us to play our own music and be as boisterous as we wanted. I highly recommend Mackenzies for your special events!More

Stumbled across this restaurant, despite it looking closed. Down some steps are double doors, without windows, with no sign of being open. If you’ve gone far enough to open the doors you will find a couple of hostesses inside who will seat you. Nice outdoor...patio area. We had steaks which were very nice. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Worth a lookMore

It was my birthday and wanted to go somewhere special. I am celiac and require gluten free food. Charlie was great in helping me choose food I could have. The filet, potatoes and green beans were very good. Thanks for meeting my needs.

Best kept sceret in the springs. This is an old hidden gem with fantastic food, very attentive staff and a wonderful peaceful atmoshphere. Staff and people are not running all over the place while you are trying to eat. Quiet booths and tables so you...can enjoy conversation with your guests without having to listen to other diners cackling on their cell phones. I have been going here for many years and its my favorite go to when I want a good steak, Great Martini's too and NO TV!!!!!!!!!!!More

Returning to MacKenzie's Chop House after a 10 year hiatus was good in that it made us appreciate Marigold's and Swiss Chalet even more. The meal was just blah, very forgettable, and definitely not worth the money. Minimal effort was put into our meal, especially...the salad, perhaps the worst we've ever had at a "fine dining" establishment.More

To my surprise their seafood came out very well done based off a business partners meal. I had the calamari that was so soft and delicious I wanted to order another round just for dinner. I went with the Prime Rib 12oz and man it...was delicious. It was cut very well and you could almost slice into it with your fork. Also they've got Blatons which is hard to find.More

There are a number of stairs at the front entrance of the restaurant. I recommend calling the restaurant - because there may be another entrance That I am unaware of. Once inside there would be no problem.
