I walked from my hotel near the airport into South San Francisco in search of a great meal. I found it at La Tapatia! This is a store with a kitchen in the back and do they ever make some great-tasting tacos! The menu is...large, and it was difficult to make a choice since everything looked so good! However, I chose Carne Asada tacos, and the kitchen magician at the grill allowed me to choose the ingredients. If it didn't turn out to be delicious, it would be MY fault! However, I did not need to worry. The tacos were some of the best I have had...Mexican Food the way it should always taste! I managed to resist the temptation to load up on Latin American grocery items, and just bought a small bag of tortilla chips to accompany the tacos, along with a small cup of their hot salsa. (It WAS hot, too -- but not overwhelming). La Tapatia is a real gem, and I would recommend it without hesitation to travelers and locals alike. The next time I am in the South San Francisco/Airport area, I know exactly where I will head for a great meal!More

Real Mexican eatery and store with all Mexican products you can imagine. Crowded, dark, with lack of interior design, looks like unfriendly space. But who cares? The food is awesome and authentic, portions are huge and cheap. I don't need nothing more. My Torta de...Milanesa with breaded steak was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Mandatory place for Mexican food enthusiasts.More

This was the first time coming to La Tapatia and I was highly surprised! I ordered two "super breakfast burritos" with carne asada. They make everything fresh before your eyes, which I like. The tortilla that they use looks about the same size as a...large pizza! Since I ordered the "Super" the filling consisted of: carne asada, rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and a great tasting hot sauce that's home made. There was so much on the tortilla that it was hard for the guy to roll it up and package it. After paying $16 for the two burritos, they handed me the bag and it felt like 20 pounds! I returned to my jobsite and could only eat 1/2 of the burrito! I ate the other half for lunch. They have a nice sized menu at decent prices. The grill is only a small piece of the store though, it also sells food that is customary to Mexico. I will definitely be a fixture at La Tapatia eating great food.More

Best and biggest burritos in the area. Food is absolutely great...Mondays, the place offers costillas en chile a spicy delicatessen and absolutely delicious if you mix it with rice. El platano frito es recomendable and tasteful.

Turned on this place years ago. Everything they serve is made and made well in house. Chicharrones, the best pig's feet you've ever had, the selection is endless and everything is to go but there are outside seating areas all over the place if you...can't wait. Service is very friendly with a wide selection of drinks, chips, etc. Good place to stock up for the flight so you don't have to eat airplane junk food ... 2 can eat well with a "plate" that come with choice of meat, Spanish rice, beans etc. With your first bite you're going to thank me for this ~More

I try to make it a habit of stopping in a La Tapatia when I'm in the San Francisco area. Just a few blocks off of 101 in South San Fran...it's worth the very small detour. The goodies they pack inside of this "anything but...small" burrito are amazing. This trip, I was there 2 nights in a row. One night was a Carnitas Burrito and tonight was the Chili Colorado Burrito. Dang they are awesome!! Each burrito comes double wrapped in foil. They are a handful and you definitely get your money's worth. You can find just about anything you like that has a "Mexican flare" to it. Salsas, sauces, chips, and a variety of drinks. More like a "deli" that has goodies to go!More
