I took my 14 year old niece for a late lunch today. The waitress, whose name was Zhenya K., was very slow in serving us, checking on us, or overly friendly. The lunch was expensive and ice tea for $4.95 per person was ridiculously expensive. Good was reasonably decent. The green beans were a bit overdone and sluggish.

We dined outside. Our first choice steak on the menu was not available, so we had a fillet instead, with pesto, garlic butter and a few fried potatoes. The wines started around $40-50 beer bottle, I said that's quite high and we were offered a "happy hour deal of $9 per glass. I did note all wines were half price... More

Being from a small town, I never understood the need for dinner reservations. However, during this trip to LA, I learned the necessity of planning ahead. We popped into Lago after trying several other restaurants nearby the Santa Monica Pier. All of them were booked with reservations until later in the evening, and we didn't want to wait. At Lago,... First visit and only visit to this restaurant. How anyone can make true italian pasta without tomatoes, oregano and basil beats me. The tagliatelle bolognese was lumpy mince with chopped carrot and no sauce at all. If you love real Italian food please don't waste your money here. We asked the waiter where the sauce was, his reply was 'they... More

This place typifies the Italian rip off culture - bread and tapenade you didn't ask for charged at $8 per person even after the waiter had been told the wife was gluten free. Bottled water we didn't ask for charged at $8 - beware these hidden costs - yes I know, as seasoned travellers we should be prepared for this... More

My hotel had recommended this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. One of the best eating experiences I've had for a while. The Puttanesca was superb. Very friendly and attentive staff.

We were a family and had free range chicken, hamburgers, and pizza. All were delicious. The chicken meat was tender and soft and well flavored. I highly recommend this for special occasions as prices were on the high side.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
