Hubby and I went for lunch after watching the car show at State St. As usual I ordered the Bento box lunch special, the rice is terrible! I love Japanese sticky rice, but they served a rice that tasted "old" and the color was not "as white as the usual Japanese rice". It was a little tough too. It ruined... More

We had the most wonderful meal at Kai last night. The sushi was superb, the tempura shrimp and vegetable was light and perfectly cooked. We had the beef curry as well and that was tasty and delicious. A most enjoyable meal.

Decided to give this place a try after having walked past it a number of times. Was a little empty (always a worry for me) but, to be fair we were early. It soon filled up as the evening progressed. Server was polite, attentive and keen and the food when it came out was very nice. So far, the nicest... More

We came in hungry for dinner after a movie, our criterion of choice being "the first nice place we found" while walking down State Street. Kai Sushi Shabu-Shabu is indeed a nice place, with a pleasant, unfussy interior, attentive and friendly waitstaff, a sizeable menu, and a clean bathroom dedicated to its patrons and accessed by a key. Perhaps we... More

We went for Shabu shabu and sushi. The beef is excellent quality and the sushi are all good. It's nice and quiet and the service was excellent. Friendly staff. It's right across from Pase Nuevo, so it's very convenient. Will go back again when in Santa Barbara.

We went on the 1st of January and had a nice share of some sushi. Didn't have a lot, but as we're adventurous we tried the deep fried roll with a sesame creamy sauce with it. Not sure I'll have to try that again - there's something about warm sushi that does not work for me. It was a big... More

We were lucky enough to find this little gem of a sushi bar while walking through Paseo Nuevo. There is a nice little patio out back which we were seated in, it was very private. The decor was nothing special, but the Maki was top notch. We ordered a lot of food, as we were tired from driving the PCH... More

We tripped upon this restaurant and decided to go for lunch. We appreciated the lower lunch prices and the fresh sushi but as other reviewers have mentioned we did leave hungry.

We ate here once for lunch and once for dinner. The lunch was fantastic, had a cold ramen salad. I ordered 2 rolls for dinner and it was too much food, I would have been better off just getting one. The fish was very fresh and tender.
