This is our #1 spot when it comes to having a good steak. Plus, the baked potato, cheese bread & cabbage salad....omg 🤤🤤🤤 Never disappoints!

If you like old fashion style Steak House with brick, wood, and "old school" ambiance this is the place! Opened in 1946 (?), we met people who have been going here for 50 years and love it! The Waiters/Waitresses dressed very sharp in black and...red; very nice staff; bartenders were busy, but made our drinks perfectly (this was New Year's Eve.) The portions were huge on each of our plates. The salad before dinner was large with choice of three dressings at your table (all homemade) plus red cabbage(vinegar dressing) to eat on the side or add to your salad. The steaks were cooked to perfection, baked potato was huge with toppings at your table, onion rings were piled high and cheese bread too! (all of this is included along with the salad-no ala carte) Choices of wine were great even the house wine was good! If we lived closer we would definitely go again. Making reservations is a must because this place is popular. Highly recommend Clearman's Steak and Stein!More

This wonderful old place has lost it's way. Service is not bad but the steak was raw and inedible. The baked potato was great and the condiments were fresh. The bar service is good and reminiscent of better times.

The service was awesome. The food was amazing. The prices were very high. The ambiance was very dark...the kind where you need your phone light to read the menu. It isn't necessarily "fancy" dress but definitely dress nicely.

Well it has been 3 yrs. since my last visit and review. Worried about some of the changes and if you have been going there for over 51 yrs. you won't like it! They have put well over 9 dining room tables in the bar/lounge...area and the fountain is not surrounded by comfy redwood cushioned chairs as only 1/3 of them still exist. People coming in and standing and waiting for their tables hover over the tables where people are sitting and having their dinner. Definitely wouldn't sit there! We were shown to the front smaller room by the grill and after 3 minutes asked to be moved into the "real" dining room for a longed for elegant meal and service. The "grill" room had two TV's going, plus jazz music over the speakers and every time the front door to the restaurant opened, our view was of people walking in and as the door closed each time, there was a high pitched creaking sound like nails on a blackboard. I kindly explained to Gabriel the manager that I don't want a tv on when trying to enjoy my dinner that I consider pricewise equal to Ruths Chris or Maestros. Finally we were seated in the larger dining room where there is lovely artwork on the walls and a beautiful chandelier and NO television. Our waitress Kieria was perfect and checked in with us often. Another change is that salads are given to you on individual plates (just lettuce and croutons) and you are asked if you'd like more but they don't leave the large wooden bowl on the table anymore. The warm red cabbage bowl was just eh! The cheese bread we loved now has less cheese on it and is more soft rather than toasted (likely due to being wrapped in tinfoil which creates condensation.) I remember that you used to be able to purchase their cheese garlic topping by the butter and sour cream section at the supermarket. Maybe it is still being sold? The onion rings are fabulous and have a flaky thin coating rather than a heavy breaded fried outside. My salmon was overcooked and was a generous slab and I asked for tarter sauce as the lemon slice wasn't quite enough. I would ask that it be cooked a bit less if anyone reading this wants to order fish as there were other reviews saying their fish was overcooked also. For $39.00 my fish could have been a lot better. The Brochete and filet and top sirloin were cooked correctly and the three others didn't leave a bite on their plates. My potato wasn't as big as the three men at the table and wondered if they thought I couldn't handle it. Mine was definitely average sized instead of the size 5 shoe size I used to get. The cheese sauce is runnier for the potato but the salad dressings are the same as they always were. My only real complaint was the incessant jazz music the entire 90 mins. we were there. It just doesn't match the old world setting and classical or soft elevator music would have been better for me. I found the music distracting and bothersome with the drum beats and no evidence of a melody. I guess most people like it but when leaving I was told that they should have changed it since perhaps it was on from their Sunday brunch. They said they have different music usually on? So I likely won't go back even after driving over an hour to have a taste of what used to be. They likely are trying to appeal to a younger hipper clientele but elegant dining was what I had wanted.More

I am quite disappointed , you can't pay 39$ a NY and get a steak of this size good or not. I got here and got a huge bill , and after finish my steak and baked potato I had to ask for some garlic...bread because I was still hungry.... I never go back here. The place is nice and characteristic (beside too dark , I barely can 't see the bill when was time to sign it) , even staff was quite rude to us. FMore

A breath of fresh air. Professional service by people who take pride in a great experience. Thanks food is on par with the best steak houses but it is the service that takes this place "over the top". Make dinner special again. You don't have...to dress up but once you experience the quality you will make the effort and you will not regret it.More

My husband and I came here for dinner because I remember having a pretty decent meal here back in 1985. Well, although the service was excellent, our meal was lackluster. This is supposed to be a steakhouse and the steaks we were served were overcooked...and lacking in quality. I ordered my filet medium rare leaning towards rare but not too bloody, and it looked more like medium well. The taste and texture of the steak was not very good, actually quite ironic because the menu advises against ordering a well done steak. I would have taken a picture of the steak, but it was so darned dark inside. The server places all the fixings you want on your baked potato, which is quite nice, but beware of the chives. I love extra chives on my potato, and these chives looked more like runny, pickled chopped green onions. They did not appeal to me at all - yummy garlic bread though. My husband said the restaurant reminded him of an old, overpriced, Disneyland steakhouse. We will not come back here for steaks.More

It was our 53 wedding anniversary and we have come there every year since our first. The salad is suppose to be endless and it wasn't, potatoes much smaller and hardly any butter was put on. Our steaks were full of fat and gristle. They...put us in the side room all by ourselves. So disappointing after all these years.More

I was part of a large group (20), there for a business dinner. They seated us in a nice (if dark) back room, and had two servers work with us, so the service was surprisingly good and prompt, for such a large group. The cheese...bread (which everyone raves about) and the appetizers were very good. There was some minor confusion when the main courses were served, but that was worked out, and everyone got the right dish. But... my filet ($44) was really overcooked (and the onion rings were room temperature and soggy). I ordered medium rare, but most of it was medium well to well done. In such a large group, for a business celebratory dinner, I was not going to send it back or make any comment about it. With the overdone parts and the gristle, I ate less than half of the 10 oz. steak. As conversation unfolded around the table, several others said that their steaks (some of which cost $54) were overdone. And, one of our group actually ate little or none of his steak because it was way too rare (I believe they did remove that charge). The servers apologized, and made the best of things... and they really were doing as fine a job as they could, all things considered. But a steakhouse has simply got to cook them right. And they didn't on this occasion.More
