In addition to my tastebuds' delight, the number of customers speaking Amharic is testimony to the authenticity of the food served here. I came with my ten-year-old granddaughter, so I was able to adjust the level of spiciness to her level. In addition to the usual sauce-covered meat dishes (very flavorful), we got a bay shrimp dish that I'd never... More

This is one of the better Ethiopian places among many in North Oakland....guess that's why it has stood the test of time. The food here is good, the service is OK. The menu is a bit different from other places-lots more seafood (hence the name, I suppose). The okra dish is very good, as are the mushrooms-both are not so... More

You must this Ethiopian restaurant when you are in Oakland, CA. They have all the traditional dishes what we have all come to love. They have a salad called Timatim which is minced Injra which is soaked in tomato sauce and flavored with wonderful spices. They have all my favorites including Kitfo and Gored-Gored. They have Vegetarian food, African beers... More

This has turned out to be one of my favorite places to eat for many reasons. First the food ! If you order the pasta with shrimp, it's a plate much more then you can imagine. Sauce is red with a bit of spice to it- you can go spaghettini or penne - which ever. You can easily share one!... More

This is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant. My wife, 9 year old son and I usually share one veggie and one meat combo, and everything is so delicious we practically lick the plates clean, in spite of being stuffed! The flavors seem deeper and more complex than most of the other Ethiopian places I've tried, and I'm guessing that the steady... More

We wanted to try something new and different so we went to the Red Sea. We ordered a family style assortement including vegetariang and meat entrees. The food tasted great. It's a little spicy (not extremely though) so if you dont like a little kick in your food that may be a concern. We had a variety of foods with... More

We've been going to Red Sea for over twenty years. Occasionally, we try a different Eritrean or Ethiopian restaurants in the East Bay, but we always come back to Red Sea. My wife and I generally eat here once a week. The food is consistently good, they have an excellent selection of east African beers and honey wine. Warning: it... More

This place is a fine bar especially for Ethiopians in the evening. Unfortunately the food, which I had a coupon for, was not worth what I paid for it. With so many other better spots in the area, I don't reccomend this one.

Thank Maia S
