We ate here while on family vacation. The place is a little rough around the edges; by that I mean it is not finished inside, studs showing, no drywall in places. The tables needed a good cleaning, greasy to the touch. There were 10 of us and some did not care for their meals. I had tacos and they were... More

We were recommended this place by a staff member at the nearby Montara Point lighthouse where we were staying the night as being in walking distance. As others have noted the place gave the impression that I would be ordering a good dose of food poisoning, instead I got the tastiest burrito I've ever had, and zero ill effects!

This is our go-to place when we don't want to cook dinner. Great veggie burritos. Funky kind of building with picnic tables inside just like a lot of places in Mexico. Very popular with surfers and construction guys and us locals. Order at the window and wait for them to deliver the great food in a plastic bag. Love it.

I get food to go at El Gran amigo quite often, it never disappoints. They also have delicious horchata.

This is a fab place! It's rough in an entirely wonderful way and might even do for the next Tarantino film set. The standard is very high for the price. My burrito was a thigh thick portion. The kids could not eat their portions they were so big. Four of us ate lunch for $26 and couldn't finish it all!... More

This place is a good taqueria and this is the best carne asada in town. Sorry Tres Amigos, but they have way better casda. I really still crave the San Diego style of Mexican food, e.g., the burrito has meat, cheese, salsa etc in the burrito and the rice and beans on the side. I have now gotten into the... More

This place should be torn down before it falls down. I don't know how the health department allows them to stay open. Very dirty inside/outside.

Yes, this is a dive. But everyone, from locals to workers to brave travelers who stop in at El Gran Amigo, discover the best Mexican food on the coastside. A great menu selection and great prices. If you are here to go to the beach, you can take burritos with you for a yummy picnic!
