The ice cream was amazing, Mochi is weird for me, I have texture issues, but you have to try it if you are in Little Tokyo, it is worth it. I sucked the ice cream out of the gel shell and was happy doing it that way after the 1st bite.

This was my first time trying mochi and now I'm hooked. The store itself is kinda small, with very few spots to eat indoors. There was no line when we were there, so service moved very quickly. They serve multiple flavors of both mochi and gelato. The pistachio mochi was my favorite for sure. The do accept credit cards, but... More

Mochi! its a dim-sum ice cream. The texture is great and the ice cream is great. They have a gelato version too. try them all they are a blast. Pack some traditional Japanese sweets on the way out. But, it's mochi that you will keep coming back for. The lines tend to be looooong, and they had run out of... More

Atmosphere Little specialty store. There are a few two seater tables to enjoy your treats. Service Not very friendly or helpful. Definitely not a place where you feel invited. Order and move on. Food They offer gelato and an extensive selection of mochi ice cream. (Mochi is a slightly chewy and a little sticky delight made from rice flour.) I... More

The Service: few staffs working behind the counter. Only a few table/chairs inside the store. The Food: Just taste like frozen mochi in the market frozen section. The mochi doesn't taste that soft. But price is cheap! The Parking: Parking structure.

The Mochi Ice cream was great. They also had Mochi Gelato which none of us tried. The regular gelato was excellent.

I LOVE mochi and I love ice cream and mochi ice cream. (I'm already salivating. Hhaha.) No really small dessert shop with white powder on the tables and long lines (due to lack of staff). When I went there was one person at the register with a long line of people waiting so the line was pretty slow. They have... More

Best mochi ice cream in some really great flavors that you cannot get at the market. Always have to have coconut. So delicious and you cannot just have one... maybe more like 4!

Found out the Mikawaya was the birthplace of Ice Cream Mochi .... WOW !!!!! I buy ice cream mochi from asian supermarkets from time to time but nothing compares with the succulent, chewy, tasty ice cream mochi at Mikawaya. So glad that the founder decided to maintain a store for visitors despite her (yes it was a woman - retired... More

Mikawaya is the same company that makes mochi ice cream that's sold at Trader Joe's, but this store carries many flavors that you simply can't find anywhere else. Highly recommended are the mochilatos (mochi ice cream made with gelato). Guava and plum wine are among my favorites. Be warned, this place is cash only.

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
