There is usually a line starting by 11 am for the 11:30 restaurant opening for lunch. If you can get in, the sashimi lunch special is legendary in LA as one of the best deals. Otherwise, wait for the second seating.

My mom and I come here whenever we have a little extra money to blow on sushi. The wait is very long however. We try to get to the restaurant around 11:30 to beat the lunchtime crush.

One of my family´s favorite restaurants. Fresh fish, good service and reasonable prices makes us go pretty often.

This place is packed for lunch - as someone who works in DTLA, it's hard to escape for a long lunch but have done so a couple of times and Sushi Gen never disappoints. Lunch special is the best $17 you'll spend. Be ready for a long line! Very efficient once you are in, pretty fast.

Thank god for this old school gem. It's been in L.A. nearly as long as I have, and remains one of the best traditional sushi bars in the city. Little Tokyo has many, and many are average at best. There are lines in front at opening time for a reason. It's very, very good.

This is the best place for sushi in Los Angeles or probably one of the best all around. I have had sushi in other countries (Japan and Taiwan) and I would put it to be as good as those locations. The restaurant is not what I would consider a "high end" environment as compared to some of the other restaurants... More

Situated in LA's Little Tokyo in the Honda Plaza, Sushi-Gen serves traditional Japanese cuisine. Its contemporary, yet casual setting features a sushi bar where guests can watch the artful chefs prepare their meals. Guests can start with an appetizer of steamed eggs, monkfish liver or a giant clam special at Sushi-Gen. A main course of sautéed sole, chicken teriyaki or... More

Wow! Was staying across the street at the Miyako. Did the Yelp dance and wandered around the block to check out the many options there in Little Tokyo. Settled on Sushi Gen. Ordered a roll, at $15 I thought at first was pricey but it was huge, maybe 15 pieces, and several orders of nigiri. Roll was great but the... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
