Great little find, close to Venice Beach and the house we rented. Excellent menu, everything was very fresh, the sushi chef was extremely friendly and passed several "snacks" to us at the bar. Ambiance was nice and the crowd was lively! It was a little pricey, however so are many of the restaurants in the area.

Sushi directly fresh made in a leisurely atmosphere. The guests are widely spread from business people to surfers direct from the beach

Admission #1...I am a delivery addict. There is probably a 12 step program for this - I mean, this is L.A., seriously...I am a Door Dash patron of the arts. Admission #2...I am shocked...truly shocked at the quality of the food for delivery sushi. Hama proved me wrong. I am now a legit fan. I ordered roughly $65 of sushi... More

Hama Sushi is great. It has been there for years now. It was one of the first nice places to eat when Venice started to "upscale" itself. Hama Sushi has seating inside and a semi-outdoor area (covered) as well as a sushi bar. The sushi bar is super fun and you just order from the sushi chef. Everything is great,... More

Located a scant 5 minute walk from the Venice Beach sign, Restaurant Hama provides great, authentic Japanese food. Ordered a mix of sushi that I truly enjoyed. What's good always shifts...but the servers seem to have a good handle on what's great that day. I had the Wakame salad as well (I typically order it) but this one was the... More

Great Sushi place in Venice. Very friendly personnel and super good food. We could sit at the Sushi bar and order directly from the chef.

While staying with friends we walked to Hama. I made an excellent choice with the Venice Roll a local favorite. Each dish ordered by our party of three was super satisfied. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Now I know what you are thinking, why wouldn't a sushi restaurant smell like fish? But usually I associate fresh sushi with no fishy smell. It tasted ok, but the overwhelming fish smell got to me after a while and we had to end up sitting on the right side of the restaurant, away from the sushi bar. The staff... More

Not sure I would make a trip to Venice Beach for it, but if you are in the neighborhood and feel like having shashimi/sushi that is a good casual destination with quality fish, in a great location. Don't forget to look at the pictures on the walls describing Venice as it used to be, canals and all. A real treat.

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
