This is an excellent Jewish Deli and definitely worth a visit. The food is excellent and the service is dependable as expected. The place is huge and very busy. Definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I stopped by DZ Akins for a late lunch. We weren't overly hungry so we decided to share a corned beef, cabbage and potato plate, knowing that the portions are humongous. We were first served with our choice of soup. Our favorite...More

Every time we make it to San Diego we have to come here. True delicatessen in every way. Love the chop liver. Don’t believe the half sandwich and soup. Huge whole sandwich with part crust cut off one end. 😋. Then the deserts are delicious...More

Hands down the best Jewish Delicatessen in San Diego. I always order the corned beef Reuben. They have all the favorites. You have to stop at the bakery at the end of the meal. I love their sprinkle cookies and hamentashen. Yum!!!

This is the best traditional deli in San Diego. While some consider it a bit pricy, you get what you pay for. The food is fresh. Everything tastes good. And, the menu is almost as long as a Michner novel. Be prepared to take home...More

Was told it’s the best Jewish deli in town.. well San Diego is hurting then. I find it OVERPRICED and only mediocre food. Giant portions of bland chicken sandwich or soup is still bland. Pancakes are under done, salad was $13 for a giant bowl...More

Great food and great service. BUT bring your appetite and your wallet to match it. Yes it's pricey but your sandwiches and portions are actually larger than normal. Always hit up the deli and sweet treats.

Sorry this took so long. Their portions are large. Dinner options might be a little more than $12-15. It will be worth it.

Established in 1980 D. Z. Akin's has been a San Diego institution since they first opened their doors back in 1980 and is still a family run business spanning 3 generations. From the Menu: "D.Z. stands for the two of us, Debi and Zvika Akin. Having lived in Los Angeles, we frequented many good delicatessens and knew that San Diego was in need of one. Considering how we both enjoyed cooking, and how even our first date revolved around a bowl of chopped liver, we decided to pack our bags, move to San Diego and take a stab at cooking for starved delicatessen lovers. With only a small budget, good old-fashioned recipes, the courage to experiment, hard work and long hours, 'D.Z. Akin's' came to be. We made a commitment to ourselves that we would never compromise on quality and we would fill our plates high with the finest delicatessen available... With the help of wonderful customers and perseverance, we became, beyond our greatest expectations, a thriving business."
