Since it opened in 1980, in what was a small section of the building they now occupy, I have been eating at DZ Akins. It's been years since I lived in New York, and this restaurant is as close as you can get to east coast deli food when in San Diego. My favorites are corned beef, mish mash soup... More

A visit to San Diego is not complete without a visit to Dz Akins for breakfast. My husband and I always order the same thing - corned beef hash, eggs, potatoes and cinammon raisin bagels. There is always plenty for another breakfast and it's always delicious. Waitresses are old school, efficient, friendly and terrific. While waiting for the food to... More

I still like it, it's a very nostalgic place. But the food quality sometimes feels hit or miss. The service is generally attentive and occasionally spectacular. The chicken noodle soup ironically is a weak link, way too buttery. The lean corned beef is off the chart delicious. It's good, it just used to be very great.

This was so different. I loved it. I hope to go back again while I am here. The service great. Lots of food. Has a neat bakery and deli inside and yet a nice family restaurant. Prices are a bit high but food is so good.

Omelettes, potatoes, French toast, latkes, so much to choose from, and it is all great. Our family of four spent $80 for breakfast, including tip, but it was delicious and filling.

It's been a long time between visits here, but since I was back in San Diego for a couple of days, I definitely made a point to (re)visit D.Z. Akin's Deli. Whatever your tastes are from Deli Sandwiches, Full Dinners, or extraordinary desserts, you will not leave disappointed. I've never seen a place with such a diverse menu and everything... More

Best deli in San Diego. Family atmosphere and food is homemade and portions are larger than most. Wide variety and excellent bakery and deli counter for take out. I enjoy anything with corned beef. A must visit when in San Diego.

Established in 1980 D. Z. Akin's has been a San Diego institution since they first opened their doors back in 1980 and is still a family run business spanning 3 generations. From the Menu: "D.Z. stands for the two of us, Debi and Zvika Akin. Having lived in Los Angeles, we frequented many good delicatessens and knew that San Diego was in need of one. Considering how we both enjoyed cooking, and how even our first date revolved around a bowl of chopped liver, we decided to pack our bags, move to San Diego and take a stab at cooking for starved delicatessen lovers. With only a small budget, good old-fashioned recipes, the courage to experiment, hard work and long hours, 'D.Z. Akin's' came to be. We made a commitment to ourselves that we would never compromise on quality and we would fill our plates high with the finest delicatessen available... With the help of wonderful customers and perseverance, we became, beyond our greatest expectations, a thriving business."
