Such a cozy restaurant with impeccable service and delicious food. Loved the fact that it had a log cabin feel and that it wasn’t a noisy restaurant. Would highly recommend. Need to make reservation.

Fun, unique ambiance, made me feel like I was in Montana. Service was good. My arugula salad with pan roasted salmon was delicious. My husband's steak frites were good, but the steak was an inexpensive cut with loads of gristle. Frites were uber-crispy. Our grandson's...filet was quite good. Be sure to make a reservation. We wanted to eat here again, but couldn't get in.More
Great food at reasonable price. The only downside for us was that we couldn’t get in on another night as they were too busy. This despite being told that we didn’t need to book for that night. Service was a bit slow and we get...the impression that, like most places , they are short of staff. Portions sizes large. I left half of mine not because I didn’t like it but I couldn’t manage it all. Maybe share a plate if you have a smaller appetite.More
This was the high point of our stay at the Narrow Gauge Inn. We were extremely disappointed at our stay at the Inn next door but really enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant. My husband had the chicken parmigiana, which he loved and I had...a delicious black & blue burger. The restaurant is very quaint with a nice ambience. Would definitely recommend!More
This was a good and disappointing experience. The restaurant is very rustic with cabin like décor. Our friend and I had the Steak Frites substituting salad for the fries. My wife ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. After our steaks came and we had...several bites we realized that the server had given me our friends medium rare steak and I received her medium well steak. I must say the steaks were seasoned perfectly and were very tender. After we received our steaks, it was about ten minutes before my wife received her burger. All three of us tasted her burger and fries, they were like tasting a salt lick. No way could someone eat that meal and it took more than 15 minutes to get someone’s attention to send it back. Service mediocre, burger unable to eat and steaks amazing. Very disappointing that none of the staff wore masks.More
I went here with my wife and daughter for dinner after leaving Yosemite. We were seated quickly, even without a reservation, but that is where the pleasantries ended. Our server was polite but a bit of a magician in that her disappearing act was top...notch. The first thing that struck me were the menu prices, they weren’t too far out of line for this area but still a bit high. Based on the prices and descriptions, I figured that they must be serving up some amazing food. I could not have been more wrong about that. I had a burger, it was a pretty standard burger, not great and not bad. My daughter selected the chicken parmigiana, the chicken was fair but I still can not figure out how a person can so badly botch up fettuccine noodles and alfredo sauce. The noodles were an odd mix of undercooked and overcooked, the sauce was watery and completely lacked flavor. My wife and I had French onion soup that appeared to have a slice of sandwich bread and a slice of square cheese tossed on top. This soup must have come from a pre-made spice packet. Next up was a “southern style” meatloaf. Let me assure you, as a southern person, that any cook in the south would never be allowed in a kitchen again if they were to serve this abomination. I can’t quite place the exact flavor but let’s describe it as having been generously sprinkled with every spice in a Moroccan spice market. Bad flavors and poor quality aside, the food took well over an hour to arrive on a party of 3 and drinks were never refilled (which was needed to wash the taste away).More
Dined with friends on 9/23 for their Three Course Thursday special. Interesting, they had a Caesar Salad as one of the choice of salads. Funny! No Romaine in the house! The Chili Verde special was mildly seasoned and gave some flavor to the beans when...mixed. The rice was a non-flavor event. We really want to return, but am dubious about what their menu means! Also, none of the staff were wearing masks! Mariposa and Madera Counties are both high risk Covid Counties!More
Had dinner there last night. 09/16. We had the Prime rib and the Orange chicken. From the vegetables to the rice and garlic mashed potatoes to the main course of meats, everything was absolutely excellent. Probably the best meal we”ve had in years. The portions...are healthy so we took half of our meal back to the hotel with us. The prices were very reasonable for The quality and amount of food we received. The service with Kathleen (Kat) was also excellent she was very friendly and helpful with our wine and food choices.. The rest of the small staff were also very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was built in the 50s and not much has changed it is very Northwoods cabin like and very eclectic. We loved it! If we could rate our experience higher than five we would.More
As of 9/9/21, there is a dramatic disconnect between the restaurant you read about online and the one you actually walk into today. The location is the same, but the owner of the motel where it is located just partnered with an exiting local eatery...to take over the restaurant. This is not the high end cuisine restaurant that as of today you still read reviews of, where you are lucky to get a reservation, and they offer filet mignon and truffle mac and cheese. Instead, it is a middling bistro/grill with decent fries and burgers, cocktails that are often too sweet, and has misfires like soggy cooked kale and a beef filet plate where the meat, mashed potatoes and the previously mentioned soggy kale were all swimming in a puddle of runny gravy. In normal times, none of this would prompt a review from me. However, a word to the wise for those who care: the biggest disconnect from their previous incarnation, at least based on the long list of pandemic precautions featured on their now outdated Open Table page, is that this restaurant appears to inhabit a blissful universe in which COVID never happened. It was literally the first restaurant we have eaten at since the pandemic hit where no one — not the servers, not the hostess, no one — was masked. We asked the hostess what the protocol was when we entered, and she seemed surprised and a bit dismissive. Tables were close together, there didn’t seem to be any efforts at extra ventilation, in short it was as if we were in a flashback to 2019. Whether this information causes you to avoid the place or make a beeline for it will probably have a lot more to do with your political beliefs than your culinary tastes.More
We dined here one evening and also had breakfast here too. The restaurant is lovely, full of character, and the food is amazing. I had truffle Mac n' Cheese, followed by roasted pork with sweetcorn puree, heirloom carrots and celery root slaw, my husband had...butter leaf salad to start, then seared Alaskan halibut with potatoes and vegetables. Really was a lovely meal.More
A lovely vintage place, with obvious history. Had screened in outdoor seating with vintage oil lamps, creating a nice dining atmosphere. Our server, Gerry, was friendly. The menu was limited, and while it sounded good on paper, the food was somewhat disappointing. For that reason,...only, is why I only rated at 3 stars.More
We chose to drive to this restaurant for dinner as we had eaten there in the past. We arrived around 5:30 P.M. By 6:15, there were only three tables filled. The place seemed like a ghost restaurant. We left by 7:30 and no other guests...were there on a Saturday night. Maybe folks on vacation do not eat until after 7:30? The food was good but not quite like I remembered it. Was there a change of ownership in the past two years? It is sad to see this restaurant so empty and lifeless. I hope they do better.More
Per the reviews this seemed to be the best option for dinner in the area. Dining room is very inviting. Prices are high but it's Yosemite so be prepared. I made the error of choosing the rabbit entree. It's a good thing I had a...filling risotto appetizer because the rabbit was tough. My husband's chicken entree was very good. I expressed my opinion to the wait staff but no offer to reduce the price of the meal was made. It was my poor choice after all. So do go but stay clear of the rabbit!More
This is a nice place for dinner. It was not crowded at all, but the food was good. We came back for breakfast and it was not something I could recommend.
We had dinner here and each of us had something different. It was all very good and we loved looking out the window at the forest.
