Don't order the Salmon (although it's good); get the Salmon-toro which is unbelievable. Same for the Hamachi-toro. Even the green salad and edamame are delicious. Get their early or prepare to wait. Service is friendly but sometimes inconsistent. Delete

Amakara is consistently very very good. Sushi is fresh, flavors pop, tempura is light and crispy. Best of all, the lunch specials are reasonable. Service is very good.

I was visiting the US on a business trip and went with a large group of people. The food was great, edamame beans were amazing, and sushi was very good. Like other reviews, I found it very loud and difficult to hear people.

Never fails. Sushi is excellent! Not much more I can say as it's really superb. I try and get at least one trip to Amakara every time I'm in Pleasanton. A couple of tips: (1) it's usually quite cold in the restaurant as they have the air conditioning high so best bring an extra layer to keep warm. (2) You... More

The food quality and service is very good. Just be ready to yell if you want to communicate. The building is a bit smallish and it gets crowded. Its worth a try on a lunch or non-weekend dinner.

My lifelong friend and I meet here for sushi every 6 weeks. There's always about a 20 minute wait and it's worth it. We ALWAYS order the grilled edamame, it's delicious, and the Spicy Sesame Seared Tuna. Then we pick a different item from their specialties each time. We've never been disappointed. The sushi is amazing! The staff is very... More

Everything about this place speaks of success- lines of waiting patrons put the door, a bar that is hopping with customers and a kitchen that looks so busy, they better be paying them double ! However the one thing I have not been able to appreciate as much is the food. In my opinion, it is average at best. The... More

Had dinner here with my sister on a Friday evening. Got there around 6 and was told there was a 45 minute wait. There was no parking in their lot, so we had to park across the street. Luckily, the wait deterred many, so we got seated at the sushi bar after 20 minutes. We had a pork belly appetizer... More
