I ordered a couple of items including rice and I had to throw $25 worth of food as i couldn't eat it. The first hint should have been the place was super empty when I went to pick up my order. There are many better options in Berkeley. I suggest you skip it!

i first went to the Plearn when God was a boy and it was like the favorite, i think we waited 2 hours to be seated, then i went there on a weekday at 3pm and realized that was better. Then it moved from by the University Theater. I used to love the Po Tak there, spicy and flavorful, but... More

The food was not good at all, barely edible. Service was cold, unwelcoming. Atmosphere cold and uncomfortable on a cold night. We were sorry we bothered to come here and left hungry.

I started eating at the Plearn when it was by the University Theater, it moved along the way. We had the Po Tak , the fisherman's soup, it used to be served more spicy and it was a good idea to get rice with it but , also the papaya salad used to be served hotter and was good to... More

This restaurant moved from up the block, maybe 3 years ago, and was sold. The new owners have a very good lunch crowd, and less so at dinner time. The food is very good and the prices reasonable. They stay open on holidays such as Xmas and New Years eve. They have a very good lunch combo with many inexpensive... More

This place isn't fancy but the food is great, the service is frindly and the prices are easy on your wallet. If you are in the mood for good Thai food this is a great choice.

One of my go-to restaurants for Thai as a Cal student, Plearn is still as tasty today as it was 30 years ago. You can't go wrong with standard Thai fare, such as Mee Krob to start, Thom Ka Gai with chicken for soup and Chicken Panang (ask for it with white meat chicken). If you like a little kick... More

I recently attended a weekend workshop a block away from this place and I ate here three times, twice for lunch and once for dinner. The place isn't much to look at and it doesn't accept credit cards, but everything I had was good in that way that wakes up your mouth and has you say "oh that's the way... More

Fine --will come back and review this more fully. Plearn has been around for ages but many other places have eclipsed this place for overall flavor and freshness, I'm afraid

My benchmark Thai restaurant. Back when I lived in Oakland, in the late 90s, I would take BART up to Berkeley for a meal at the "old" Plearn at every opportunity. On a recent visit to downtown Berkeley for the first time in at least ten years (during which I've eaten at many, many Thai restaurants that failed to live... More
