Past the graveyard and across the bridge we came to the insignificant looking cafe on the right. Inside the scene changed. They had high end souvenirs. marmalades, honey, exotic honey and pastries. The cappuccinos came with beautiful designs etched into the froth. My frappe mocha...came in a pint jar with a handle. A finer taste could be had nowhere. I have photos but was unable to upload for this. The place was spotless and the service friendly. This was only my second visit and am looking forward to many more.More
Amazing quiet lodge, spotless, New rooms, with amazing views of Dota coffee valley. Short, easy drive from airport, or Pablo will arrange to pick you up. Guaranteed you will see more species of hummingbirds here, right from the terrace, than any other spot. Plus, your...new friends, owners Pablo & Tere, will make you feel welcomed right from the first moment of your arrival. Coffee grown right in the valley below, adds to your birding adventure. Pablo will arrange tours of the coffee processing facility or any other adventures you might wish.

We came here for the coffee and stayed for the cake.
I'm a coffee addict and Costa Rica has some of the best - we were informed that Santa Maria de Dota is the mecca of Costa Rican coffee, so we had no choice but...to go.
To my surprise, one of the things I enjoyed the most was the "espresso bomba". This was espresso coffee with some added honey and pollen (if I understood her Spanish correctly). It was so good, even though I usually hate sweet coffee.
Give it a try!More
Well deserved the trip.after a track in the parque nacional los Quetzales we went to Santa Maria de Dota, just for the coffee and we're not disappointed.
After living in costa Rica for almost 7 years we know that they manufacture here the best coffee,...but if you want to drink good coffee you have to be careful, because the way locals drink is less than good. They call it "sock coffee" and it tastes, for me at least, as it's namesake. It is called this name because the filtering apparatus is a small sack on a wooden instrument that is used for filtering the water through the coffee.
Well...this is not what I like...
In Café Privilegios you can drink the best classic cups right in front of the manufacturing facility.actually, when you go to the restroom there's a panoramic window in this direction.
I have been buying Dota coffee for years (they won the best in the yearly competition a few times) but this is the first in Privilegios . They now have more branches (in Cartago and San Jose) but a trip to the "green valley" (Valle Verde) is worth it!More
My wife, I and our three sons thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Coopedota R.L.!
The staff were so nice in organising a tour on the Sunday we headed back to San Jose.
The young women who was our guide was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable on...all aspects of coffee production, history and simply made the tour very interesting. Our boys (9, 12,14) were fascinated - as were my wife and I.
After the tour we enjoyed delicious ice coffees and coffee desserts in the lovely restaurant.
We heard that the coffee in Santa Maria was amazing so we ventured off of the highway on our drive from Paraiso to Dominical. So glad we did. Such friendly service. Young lady spoke fluent English which helped us immensely. We loved the coffee so...much that we each had to bring some back to share with our friends back home. It is a bit of a crazy drive down the mountain and back up to get back on the highway, but was sooo worth it.More
Highly recommended is the tour of the coffee cooperative that is the center of all life in Santa Maria. About 2 hours with a very knowledgeable guide. Capping it off with excellent coffee and desert at the attached coffee house.
Adjacent to the Coopedota, R.L., Coffee Plant, the Cafe Privilegios is a wonderful place to get a fresh cup of coffee, whether hot or cold. A huge board of offerings makes it hard to choose, but we got the Latte Americano and Caramel Latte. The...drinks are served in clear glass mugs, to be able to see the layering of the flavors, and each one is decorated with a special design on top. They also have light snacks of traditional Costa Rican fare, such as empanadas. For a quick after-dinner drink or light snack, Cafe Privilegios is the perfect spot in Santa Maria de Dota.More
