Wonderful breakfast buffet at a reasonable price. The restaurant is on the bottom floor and has elevator access. Looking forward to returning soon.

We stayed at the Lodge for Thanksgiving 2022. We are at the restaurant several times including the Thanksgiving buffet. We never had anything that was bad. One day on the breakfast buffet the grits weren’t how I’d like them. Really nothing to complain about. Overall...the food was good! The breakfast buffet was always good. It had bacon, sausage, biscuits, grits, gravy, cottage cheese, fruit, pancakes, French toast, and probably more I can’t remember. The dinner buffet was good also. The chicken fried steak was not hand battered but it was good. We had all kinds of food on the dinner buffet like: pot roast, baked fish (great), mashed potatoes, rolls, varied deserts, fried fish, fried green beans, and other veggies, soup and salad. I never walked away hungry or disappointed. The Ruben sandwich and coconut shrimp were great. It was always clean and the staff was always friendly! If you have read to the end of this review, just look at the photos…the view is amazing!!More
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We were on a three day vacation at Mount Magazine staying in one of the cabins. I decided to check with trip advisor (as I always do) to get a good recommendation for dinner. The Skycrest restaurant was listed as # 1 in the area....So we decided to go on Wednesday evening at 5:30. We were presented with a very limited one page menu. This was my husbands birthday dinner and we were looking forward to a steak dinner - which was on their website menu. The only steak on this tiny menu is a chopped steak. I ordered shrimp to only be told they were out. This was at 5:30 in the evening. We were trying to make the best of things to salvage the occasion so ordered the soup/salad bar first which was good but only had about six options for salad and one type of soup. When our food order came my husbands chopped steak was very overdone and flavorless. The brown gravy tasted exactly like it was poured out of a jar without being heated at all. Since they were out of shrimp I decided on a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The fries, again, tasted like frozen out of a bag and the sandwich was mediocre at best. As stated we were trying to make the best of the situation but it we ended up leaving more than half our meals on the plate because the food simply tasted bad. The bright spot was the service. The young lady was very friendly and kept apologizing about everything before we even had a chance to comment on the food. She came to the table and told us she was not charging for my meal at all because she could tell we were disappointed. Mind you..we never complained because we have grown so accustomed to having to make compensations since Covid. The main reason for this bad review is to warn others that the website is quite deceiving and what once was is no longer. This place is beautiful and I’m hoping they can get back to their former glory soon.More
Had breakfast in the restaurant. Omelettes are fantastic! Ordered dinner for carry out and took back to our cabin. French Dip and Cheeseburger with fries and homeade chips...you will not be hungry! Waited at the bar for our food, service (Jason) was excellent. The county...is "dry" so you have to join their "club" to order alcohol...easy enough and no cost to you. View from the restaurant is really nice. Great experience!More
Spent a long weekend at the Lodge at Mount Magazine so we ate all our meals at their restaurant. Most were buffet with plastic gloves required, but there were limited menu items available. The food was delicious, the place was very clean, and the servers...were all very friendly and attentive! Tables with a view were available first come first serve. Recommend eating here!More
The view from the lodge and restaurant is phenomenal! Unfortunately, the restaurant is yet another victim of Covid. They were very short staffed, but the servers hustled (one waitress even jogged between tables!). Reviews prior to Covid were so good, I hope they can rebound....The food really was mediocre (def glad I got a side salad bar as that was good). Of course we tipped very well, because all staff deserve everything they can get. But again, the views are spectacular from the restaurant and lodge.More
Buffet only at this time. Lacked labels or descriptions of offerings, had to be adventurous. Wondrous smokey flavor in the meat selections, delicious sides and plentiful desserts. The dining room has a tall cathedral ceiling, complete with BIG log beams. The waitstaff is very kind.
We stopped here as we visited the park around lunch time and its the only option around. The lodge is beautiful as is the setting. The restaurant is equally beautiful. However they only offered a buffet and it reminded me of a school cafeteria. The...food was mostly bland, but the desserts were good. However the view made it all worthwhile...😊More
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent visit. We are pleased that you enjoyed the beautiful views and scenery. We do apologize for the buffet currently being all that is offered. We have high hopes of returning to our...More
Six of us had the lunch buffet here on 5/7/21. At that time, the buffet was the only option. The restaurant had very good covid protocols for the buffet The food ranged from poor (burgers definitely not a good buffet item) to good or very...good (the chicken strips, salad, potato salad, onion rings) but the best part was the dessert buffet. The peanut butter and chocolate pie, lemon shots, various fruit cheesecakes were all very good. The view from the restaurant was great and I thought the one waitress for the entire restaurant did a great job. (Note to management you need more waitstaff and busboys). We would eat here again.More
Thank you for visiting Skycrest Restaurant. It is great to hear the positive experience you had enjoying the desserts and view. We apologize for the not so great experience with the other buffet items. We believe feedback is positive whether it is that we are...More
My wife got the grilled chicken sandwich. She said it was good. I got the Summit burger. It had two hamburger postures plus bbq smoked pulled pork. The burger was excellent. The pork was very smoky, great flavor. The pasties were big. Not the thin...little things your get at a fast food place. I added Swiss cheese. It didn't really need it. The burger also had bacon. My wife and I both had fried green beans for our side. The beans were good. We thought they would serve them with ranch, they didn't. But they fine without the dressing. The prices are very reasonable.More
We ate every meal here the weekend we stayed at the lodge. Food was very good. Service is a bit slow, but that isn’t a complaint. I think they may have been somewhat short staffed a couple of the times so it took an hour...to an hour and a half from being seated to getting the check. I only say this so other travelers can know what to expect. It was nice having an excuse to sit and look out the windows at the beautiful view. We didn’t have anywhere to be at any certain time, so it was perfect. We had steaks one night and chicken another night, both very good. Breakfast both days was great. Hash browns and bacon were delicious , and on our last morning, my husband and I both got pancakes. We aren’t even “pancake people” but these were so light and fluffy. He got blueberry and I got pecan. Servings are HUGE. You get two plate sized pancakes and a side of bacon, ham, or sausage. We could only eat about half a pancake each, and they didn’t make us feel stuffed afterwards like most pancakes do. The desserts are very good too. We had the dessert flight one night which was good, but the peanut butter pie is HUGE and amazing. We ate half and took the other half back to the room. The next day it snowed and we put our two chairs from the room facing our window, and my husband made a makeshift table out of the ironing board, and we spent the afternoon drinking coffee and eating peanut butter pie and watching it snow. We love this place.More
Our family of 5 ate lunch and supper at the lodge today and were so pleased with both meals! We all ordered very different entrees and it was all DELICIOUS!! Such friendly good service too (our waitress Megan was super nice and attentive)! The ribeye...and filet were both amazing and we also loved the coconut shrimp and the chicken fried chicken! 5 stars from this family ❤️❤️❤️More
Came to the lodge for a 3 night stay. Stopped in the restaurant at 510pm and got food at 620pm. Limited to 33% capacity so a long line formed after we were seated and most folks gave up after waiting an hour to just to...get seated. I really don’t understand as the front desk said every room was booked but only 1/3rd can get in the restaurant to eat. Waitress was super nice and told us there was 30 job openings at the restaurant that can’t be filled partially due to the State imposed hiring freeze. There were only 2 wait staff and we saw a armed Park Ranger in uniform busing tables. Probably not in his job description but certainly impressed me. Waitress also told us the head chef was not working tonight so there would be a bit of a wait. That was an understatement but not her fault. Food was about 3 out of 10. Chicken was dry, mashed taters tasteless, fried okra not done, out of mac & cheese, etc.... After looking at pre-COVID reviews it looks like staffing and food quality is normally good, so be aware of the current limited wait staff, limited ability to get in the restaurant, long waits and less than best food quality until things get back to normal. I would suggest the State staff up to turn tables faster and to allow more guests to get in and eat even with limited seating. If we would have known all this in advance, we would have waited another year of two to book our trip. FYI, the Lodge and room were great!More
Unfortunately it was rainy and foggy when we came, so we had a view of the clouds, but it’s not every day you have lunch in the clouds! The lodge is beautiful, our server Mandy was amazing, and the crispy chicken sandwich and sweet potato...fries were delicious! It was a large portion and a good deal. They did have a limited menu right now, and lunch choices were sandwiches, burgers, salad and soup. We had a great time in spite of the weather and the drive was beautiful with plenty of fall foliage and a few deer crossing the road too.More
The lodge is beautiful and has great views. The restaurant has a great view as well. It's open right now with limited seating and a limited menu. We had burgers which were excellent. However, the wait to get in was an hour, and the service...was poor. They were under staffed, but our waiter was also super slow and rarely checked on us or brought us what we asked for. It took forever to get finished and pay the bill.More
Thank you for visiting Mt Magazine State Park and Skycrest Restaurant. I'm happy to hear that your burgers were so good! We sincerely apologize for the wait time and the slow service. Your review will help us improve as we strive to provide excellence service...More
