We joined friends for Sunday lunch as this very nice pub. The food was typical pub grub but we all agreed it was cooked and presented very well My sirloin of beef was very tasty and my wife was very complimentary about the Hake. I...More

Chose the Royal Oak for a quiet drink in the garden. Very overpriced, a small Diet Coke at £3.30 seems utterly ridiculous. Won’t be back.

Having moved out of the area a few years ago it was old memories of this place in summer that made the wife and I pop in a few weeks ago for a spot of lunch. The menu's had obviously been refreshed but the service...More

Went back again with friends for an evening meal. Easy parking but no phone signal at all on Vodafone. Very crowded and hot. Very good service and food. Just as good as ever. Recommended

We came here in a recommendation. Nice country pub with a short menu which is very well done. Less is more...was busy but the staff were prompt and attentive. Pork croquette, bubble and squeak, sea bream and pork tenderloin were all top notch. The pub...More

Was pleasantly surprised by this venue, which had not previously been on the radar. Much more a restaurant than it is a pub, but it does have a large garden area away from the road if you prefer to drop in for drinks only (the...More

Sat outside to eat as it was such a warm evening. Busy but pleasant surroundings and a nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly and efficient and food brought with reasonable promptness despite being busy. A nice grass area for children to play safely but not too...More

Hi, yes dogs are most welcome inside the pub. We love our little furry friends. Water bowls and doggy treats are also available. Dogs can sit with their owners in the bar area and at the tables situated on the hard floors.

Description
From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
