Not your average pub, no burgers or Fish'n'Chips in sight. We sat outside for a leisurely lunch, we were there for about 3 1/2 hours. The service was friendly and attentive and we're happy for us to enjoy the afternoon at our pace. Highlights of...More

Thoroughly enjoyable relaxing lunch - which had been booked as a birthday surprise. Management directed the parking as there were lots of guests and the car park full. There were 9 of us including a toddler (needing a high chair) and a baby (in a...More

We are locals and have been to the Royal Oak a few times. The food can sometimes be really good but sometimes it has been borderline inedible. The staff are ok on the whole but not the friendliest bunch. There is a lovely garden and...More

We live nearby and popped in with friends and our kids for a drink after an afternoon stroll. As soon as we walked in, the manager repeatedly challenged us saying “can I help you?!” in an aggressive tone, as though we were a bunch of...More

Helpful friendly staff. Nice fire lit. Our friends dog was allowed in. Good menu selection with specials. Excellent gin range. Good table service. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Happy wife for her birthday meal.

This is everything a gastro pub should be. Always a good start when there is a huge selection of gins and the barman seemed to know his stuff. Luckily we'd booked a table as the pub was very busy and being in a 'side' room...More

Hi, yes dogs are most welcome inside the pub. We love our little furry friends. Water bowls and doggy treats are also available. Dogs can sit with their owners in the bar area and at the tables situated on the hard floors.

Description
From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
