Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food, service and wine never has disappointed to date. 3rd time here and spot on every time. I had seafood croquettes, steak and the vanilla mascarpone cheesecake (unreal). Maybe an improvement but do not take away from the above is the area downstairs. If they...made this a wee bit nicer I wreckin they could have a busy little bar for before and after drinks!!More

After 2 years we returned to this amazing restaurant. Food is so fresh and inventive with in season ingredients and so flavoursome no matter what you order.

Best meal I've had the pleasure of eating in a very long time. We had Korean chicken and a goats cheese starter, both dishes were incredibly flavoursome, the batter on the so tender chicken was perfect. The goats cheese paired beautifully with the red pepper....For mains we had pork cheek paired with smokey black pudding. Again, very tender with lovely depth of flavour. Dessert was the special that night, chocolate moose with a delicate cream, hazelnuts and blood orange. Just over 80 euro for a sublime 3 course meal for two. We'll be back to Carrickmacross.More

We had dinner at the Courthouse on St Patrick’s night and the food was not as good as usual. The server however was poor our first server was rude to say the least. We ordered some wine and when she came back with it she...just poured without asking if we wanted to taste, she never spoke except to say are you ready to order, her customer service skill was appalling I did approach the chef owner when we were leaving and quite frankly he was not interested but I made sure he knew who I was complaining about All the other staff are lovely Other staff were lovely as alwaysMore

Starter - with Roasted beetroot, chicory, fennel, orange and pine nuts (I think I got this right). The dressing on this was fabulous. I need the ingredients for this Starter! Main - sauces were bland and needed a kick. Asked for honey and orange sauce...to go with honey duck meal and the chef made it. It was a massive improvement. I wished I asked to improve my pepper sauce but I'd finished my meal. Next time though. The chef knows how to cook! And not a single 'chicken' on the menu - which makes this a unique menu.More

Dined here 12th Feb as was saying in the Shirley Arms so glad we did. The food was simply delicious from the starters through to pudding staff were attentive it was a busy evening but it didn't take away from the service or the level...of food. Would we go back absolutely. The only criticism was when you walk in to the building downstairs is a complete mess. We were greeted by a lady behind the bar who wasn't at all friendly. We may have caught her off gaurd but if we were to walk in I think we would have turned and went back out the door. The language barrier might have played a part in her abruptness. I feel that the restaurant is missing out. You need to open downstairs as a bar would be nice to sit and have a predinner drink. Plus extra revenue for the owners too.More

After a Friday hiking in the Mournes, we stopped at the Courthouse for dinner. Restaurants with Michelin Bib Gourmand status can be hit and miss but the Courthouse is definitely a hit. Everything here is about the quality of the food and cooking. The food...is simply prepared but full of flavour and superbly cooked. It is also really well priced particularly for anyone who is used to Dublin prices. This restaurant is well worth a detour but book in advance as it was packed when we were there.More

We had lunch today and so enjoyed the experience. Beautifully cooked food for both starters and main meal and a dessert to finish. Both waitresses were very friendly, warm and chatty and even though we were a bit away from the rest of the diners...(best table at table 20!!), the waitresses made sure we enjoyed our meal, very attentive. It was our first time there today, but it won't be our last. Fantastic chef, food, atmosphere, waiting staff - what more could you ask for!!More

They clearly deserve their Michelin Bib Gourmand status. 9/10! It joins my list of the very best restaurants in this part of Ireland but this is the best within 40 miles! Beautiful food, lovely setting, constantly changing menu. We booked in advance and were glad...we did. We had duck and hake for mains along with crab & beef for starters. I would have eaten anything on the menu. You won’t regret going - a really amazing placeMore

We met for a pre dinner drink in the downstairs arrival area, cosy and welcoming. Very comfortable relaxed atmosphere, unknown to us at this time upstairs is a lively hub of eager diners all enjoying the variety the courthouse has to offer. A familiar face...welcomes us back, her name is Maude and is a true professional in the hospitality industry... efficient, tuned in and always ahead of the plan. For starters we had the black pudding, cauliflower & cod and mussels... everyone cleaned their plate. Mains were venison, duck, cod, steak & monkfish all served with a variety of sides, especially delicious broccoli 😋 , wines were recommended by Maude and accompanied each diners meals. This is a foodies delight. There’s love and care on the menu, in the tableware, in the food and you can feel it with every delicious taste sensation. Well done Courthouse Team. XMore

We read many good reviews and got recommendations to try the Courthouse restaurant. We finally got a reservation on a Friday to try out their early bird offer. The early bird menu is very limited. We ordered one early bird - three courses: Goats cheese.../Hake with chorizo/ walnut cake + poached pears and one a la carte - scallops / john dory - no desserts but tea. We also had a bottle of prosecco which was out of this world! The dishes were beautifully presented cooked exquisitely but nothing stand out..Goats cheese starter was small. The hake was lacking in flavour and the serving dish made it difficult to eat as we were not given fish fork. the scallops were beautifully cooked and sweet. that's a plus for me. I enjoyed a meaty piece of john dory. We also ordered broccoli on the side which was deliciously grilled. I enjoyed my dishes but not so from my partner... so we have a mixed review.More
