After 30k cycling on the Greenway in the driving rain, we came across an Oasis. We received such a warm welcome despite our dripping wet clothes. We had excellent home made scones & desserts. Well worth a visit hail, rain or shine.
Thank you Niall, glad we could warm and dry you a little bit!
We tried to visit for lunch last Thursday but unfortunately they were closed, so we were delighted when we got to go today. Unfortunately, despite the potential to be excellent, with a postcard perfect setting it was disappointing....at best. Firstly, there was no menu, secondly,...we were pointed towards a small chalk board for their options, no prices, allergens, idea of portions etc. We ordered poached egg & smoked salmon, veg soup, ham cheese and tomato sandwich and fishcakeS between the kids. After approximately 45 mins; cold soup, the sandwich, ONE sole fish cake (burned on one side) and a different poached egg came out. The soup was reheated, but still left behind. Everyone had finished when my offering came out. Unfortunately, the end of the loaf of soda bread had been used so most of the bread was hard and chewy. We were not charged for the poached eggs as a nice gesture but I am just sorry we waited for it.More

This 150 year old cottage is the real deal. We stopped in while biking on the Greenway & made reservations for the family to join us the next day. The owners were so accommodating. Everything is home made that is was like visiting the extended...family. The food is simple, classy & authentic. The tea cozys are traditional & brought smiles to all of us. Desserts delighted both young & old.More

Thanks a million Jane, it really was our pleasure to host such lovely guests 😊
Had lunch today at this amazing cafe. The homemade tomato soup was beautiful and the open prawn sandwiches were delightful. The staff were very friendly. John was well organnised in the kitchen, Helena served us with a friendly smile and Amanda's cooking was and is...of a high standard. Whether cycling or driving through Newport, do yourself a favour and stop off for a meal.More

It’s a great place to stop on the greenway. They have meals, salads, soups and baked goods. The tea & coffee is excellent and it’s comfortable and casual.
Many thanks for taking the time to write this kind review!
I had a seafood chowder with homemade brown bread and it was delicious. Creamy with chunks of fish and that bread was just perfect. You even get butter on the bread and lemon for the chowder which goes really well with it.
Thank you Serpens for taking the time to write this kind review. Best regards, helena & all at Riverside.
Couldn't fault this lovely cafe! Beautiful, clean, bright & newly painted interior. Delicious selection of food - clearly all home made. Full selection of prices, from soup to filling mains and fabulous pies & pastries. Delightful staff, giving you lots of attention and a really...warm welcome. Came by on the bikes and just had coffee the first time & realised we had to return (by car) for a leisurely lunch. We weren't disappointed!! We ate seafood risotto and frittata There were more "traditional" options on the menu too. Highly recommend - off the beaten track with a charming vibe of traditional welcome and good home cooking.More
Dear Kate, many thanks for your thoughtful and kind review. Best regards, helena & all at Riverside
We had heard promising things about the Riverside cafe off the Greenway near Newport. Our lunch at a very small table was disappointing. Mediocre vegetable soup was followed by what was listed as 'pancakes with sugar and lemon'. What arrived was one skinny somewhat greasy...pancake each. Five euro for each pancake was exorbitant. I think they probably came in a packet and we're heated in a microwave. On the plus side the waitress was extremely pleasant. So, nice staff, pity about the over priced food.More

Stopped here for lunch while cycling the great western greenway. Delicious food. Had seafood chowder followed by coffee and zucchini cake. Faultless. Staff very attentive.
Thank you Robert for stopping by and for taking the time to write this very kind review. Hope to see you again sometime. Helena and all at Riverside.
My wife found this while searching the net while I was driving is from Achill. It is secluded but we'll worth the trip. It feels like you are walking in to someone's home. Have to say I never thought I would be reviewing a ham...and cheese toasty but this is one of the best toasties I've ever had. The brownie was fab too. Call by and you won't be disappointed. Staff are very friendly.More

This was recommended to us by the guy who hired out our bikes to us. We cycled from Newport to Achill. It is only a few km from newport so we had an early stop. A lovely guy and girl were working there. Had a...fabulous fritatta. Kids had cakes. Brownies and a crumble. As they say "everything is made from scratch". Tea served in china cups and teapot with quaint teacosy. Lovely indoor and outdoor area. Loved it....More

While cycling the Westport Greenway we stopped off for some food. The coffee was excellent. The food homemade and soooo tasty. Sweet treats were homemaker with healthier options available as well. A real find and well worth a stop off. There were families there also...licking ice creams! The staff were young but well trained and friendly. It also helped that the sun was shining! Definitely make a visit if passing.More

So quaint and picture perfect. Fabulous location. The most comfortable outdoor benches for relaxing after a long cycle on the greenway. Very friendly staff - Thanks Helena! Homemade cooking..... Best pastry. The Banoffi is not to be missed. Can't recommend this place enough!
