Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Driving from Belfast to Dublin and decided to take a detour to Carlingford. What a cute little town. The highlight was the seafood chowdercat Schooner's. Wife and I agreed it was the best meal of our entire two-week trip. The seafood was so fresh, and the Guiness bread was perfect to dip into the gorgeous broth. Highly recommend.

Really nice afternoon meal. Good selection on menu for adults and kids. Bass with mussels and prawns beautifully cooked, carbonara on the kids menu went down really well, and quality of children's burger looked very good.
Service/Staff were very good - thank you for a really pleasant experience!

We decided to eat here twice. The pub part was really well organised due to Covid restrictions and I felt really safe. The staff were really lovely and attentive despite being very busy. The food was excellent. We both got steak and it was great!

Being regular diners at McKevitts my husband and I booked a table for 4 people for 25th Nov to celebrate a friends 60th birthday. When we arrived on the 25th the waiter told us we couldn't dine as the bar/restaurant was closed for a funeral, and we should have received a call to cancel our table. We were disappointed and embarrassed in front of our guests.
In the coming days, I called and spoke to the restaurant manager who was unapologetic and flippant. She said everyone who had a table booking for 25th had been phoned and if there was no answer a message was left. I explained I did not receive a call or a message and asked if she would like to check what number they had for me. She said all those details would have been destroyed. Terrible experience and customer service.

Reserved a table, based on advice from our guest house. We were not disappointed. Excellent standard of service, pleasant serving staff who gave us time in between courses. Didn't feel rushed at all, and time to soak up the atmosphere.
On to the food. Hubby had chicken curry and rice. Spot on. I had carborna penne pasta with bacon and chicken. One of the best I've had. Piping hot! We couldn't resist the dessert. Hubby had apple tart and I had mango & passion fruit cheesecake. Very good helpings and delicious. So much so we booked for dinner the next evening. All very reasonably priced.

My husband and I came to Carlingford for the weekend. We pre-booked this restaurant and thank goodness we did! Food was fantastic. So much so we tried to rebook again on the Saturday night but unfortunately couldn’t get in. If you’re visiting Carlingford you need to eat here!!

Was at Schooners Restaurant on Wednesday night. Lovely relaxing experience. Food was beautiful. My niece and I both got the steak sandwich. Nicest steak sandwich I ever had. My sister got a fish dish which was also very good. Food was all very fresh and plentiful. Dessert was also beautiful. Would recommend very highly. Staff very helpful. Tables well spaced out which is great especially at this time.

A superb lunch, seated comfortably outside. Selecting from the starters menu I had a delicious seafood chowder and my partner a vast and tasty portion or mussels. A lovely place to eat.

Whilst staying at a B&B close to Carlingford we stumbled into McKevitt's Schooners' Bar & Restaurant. I would heartily recommend the mussel-filled seafood chowder. The barman was a funny character as were some of his local buddies. This was a great introduction for us to Ireland and its people.

Very pleased with this place. 2 adults and 1 child happily fed including a milk allergy sufferer and a vegetarian. (Not an easy task) There were several veggie options offered that weren't on the menu so just ask if you don't see them. We only had main meals snd drinks but everything was cooked and presented beautifilly.
As tourists to the village we did struggle to work out which door to enter for the bar and not the hotel.
Overall excellent service and very pleasant surroundings for our meal.

Out for Sunday drive and called in to Carlingford. Looked into McKevitt's and had the fish and chips and burger and chips. Nicely cooked and presented. Good portion and good value.
We were full up when finished and ready for walking all the front.
