Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a friendly old-fashioned family pub with a variety of patrons. We had the suggestion of the day, roast pork, with vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes) and chutney. Absolutely perfect. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Certainly fresh. The pork was...delicious. We then shared an apple tart with ice cream -- very good. And for starters, deep fried brie. And a Guiness to drink. Dinner for 2 was €55. Service was friendly, with great smiles. Would highly recommend.More

Stopped off in the Pillar House for food on the way through Ballinasloe based on the fantastic reviews and I was not disappointed. Got a cozy table beside the open fire with a view of the whole pub and the craic was great to watch...between the staff and the customers. The staff were fantastic. Really attentive and checked on us regularly. Stuart was serving us and and was great with the kids making sure they got everything they needed, he’s a credit to the business! I ordered the beef stir fry and it was superb. The rest of our travelling party were delighted and if we had more time we’d have had desserts they looked lovely. All in all, very happy with our visit and hopefully we’ll get to call again.More

I was coming back from athletics in Athlone with a car full of hungry teenagers. We stopped in Ballinasloe and wandered into the Pillarhouse. A lovely fire was blazing away and was as inviting as the very friendly (and very tall) barman. They provide a...very comprehensive menu and there was something for everyone on it. We had a mixture of main courses and wraps and it was lovely to see that they provide great food and the prices are still very affordable. I had a wrap and then I had one of the most delicious scones that I have ever tasted, so light and buttery. The barman assured me that they were home baked and I nearly asked him for the recipe!!! Before we left, I bought a jar of honey that was advertised as local. They told me that the owners wife keeps bees on her farm. Now you can't get any more local than that now can you. I was really impressed with the Pillarhouse. It was clean, warm, friendly with good food and it didn't break the bank.More

Had an amazing Mother’s Day lunch here last week, food was very tasty and the tables were decorated with roses for the day that was in it! Our group had the salmon/chicken burger/stirfry/pasta and curry. No complaints whatsoever. Great atmosphere and friendly staff, what more...could you ask for! Would definitely recommendMore

Dropped in on way back from very over priced eateries in the West and it was a pleasure to get good food at a decent price. Friendly good staff was an added bonus. It is a shame that the restaurants seem to have lost the...plot since the lockdown and are charging way over the top for ordinary food. So pay The Pillar a visit for good food and fair pricesMore

Called in here on the way home from the west for some lunch. Lovely spot with rustic feel. Servers were very friendly and extremely helpful. Food was delicious, seafood chowder was fab and the garlic sourdough bread was delicious. Kids dinners are a great size...with fresh and tasty veg. Facilities very clean with sanitising stations and hand gel dotted all around the pub. Lots of space between tables and throughout the pub. Very reasonably priced with portion sizes spot on. Would definitely recommend, and will call again if passing.More

Went there a few times with friends. I'm a pescetarian but prefer vegetarian dishes. Everything there is fried, heavy. The choice is so small and for people like me non existent. Everytime I go the only choice I have are fish and chips, dripping in...oil, disgustingMore

I picked this place due to its high ratings however the food was very disappointing. I had Caesar salad which was okay but the croutons were on the stale side. My wife and I had the Cod and though it was good and hot, we’ve...had chunkier pieces in the past, a small handful of chips didn’t exactly make it a big portion of food, half the plate was filled with salad. For dessert, the brownie was very dry while the jelly was watered down to within an inch of its life. The lads serving were good lads, very friendly and efficient but the food was very disappointing.More
