Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A second visit based on a positive first experience a couple of years ago, but unfortunately it will be the last visit visit based on this experience. From the initial 'encounter' with the MD through every server we encountered, there wasn't a smile or a...hospitable comment to be had. We ordered garlic bread to nibble while we waited and it was like eating the cardboard box that the garlic was delivered in. I paid €35 for a steak. Not excessive you'd think, except it was pretty much just the steak, apart from 4 lukewarm baby potatoes squashed underneath it that is. No fries, no mash, no mushrooms, nothing at all...well there were 3 stringy cold bits of onion with a few crumbs of batter clinging to them that were completely inedible. In fairness the food came out quickly, on hot plates, which made the fact that the food itself was lukewarm at best even more puzzling. On the subject of temperature, the room was also cold. It seems that someone is overly focused on skimping on energy and ingredients than in their customer's comfort and value for money. That strategy will lead down one road, but it's definitely not the road to success. Their blurb on the top of their menu sounds impressive, but the actual experience is very far from impressive. Such a pity as it could so easily be different.More

I paid for a meal at hotel restaurant The Italian Kitchen. However the website didn.t make it clear a din er reservation also needed to be booked. Nor was there an easy way to that on the hotel website or a way to call internationally....When I arrived the host was extremely rude in letting me know I had not made a reservation. Thank God I asked for the manager- who was very gracious and professional.More

The food was good and the service was great. We went early because they do not make over the telephone reservations. The pricing is comparable to other places. The waiter did not write our order down but still got everything correct.

We had a meal here the evening before travelling. To be honest we weren’t expecting much but we were very impressed with the food we got. The staff and table service in general were excellent. The food was really good and filling. Everything from the...bread to the dessert tasted great. I would happily go back there againMore

This restaurant can’t have an Italian Chef, based on the bruschette we ordered. It was very, very strange and NOT bruschette!! One piece had olive oil only, the second piece had smashed broccoli with a tiny bit of I don’t know what kind of cheese,...and the third piece was the only piece that had tomatoes. We also shared pizza and it was good with a thin crust. A couple of the waitresses completely ignored us and we had to call them from across the deserted restaurant to come and take our drink and food order. When we asked for plates so we could share the pizza she rolled her eyes and said she’d get them for us. She was not friendly, curt and acted like she was put out. I’d suggest not eating here! Definitely not worth the high prices.More

Let me start by saying the prices for the menu are that of a top restaurant. Five euro for just about two glasses of water etc. The food is incredibly average, pizza cheese was semi uncooked, the ends were soggy. I saw our neighbor tables...order and it was the same way. We tried to revive our spirits with desert which was actually vile, the chef is unable to make custard and my Thousand Leaf desert was akin to eating play dough in-between two lunch crackers. Then, the service. There seemed to be three staff on the floor but the restaurant was quiet when we were there. They were laboured, we were waiting quite a while to order. We were never checked on, and even when finally (we waited a long time) cleared we were not asked if we enjoyed anything. The two neighbouring tables were also never checked on and received the same non existent service. Our neighbor while finishing ordering knocked his wine menu onto the floor near the feet of his waiter, a bald Italian man - he looked at it and left it there for the customer to pick up. Very confused service style, zero attention to detail and evidently staff that simply are not trained. Eat elsewhere.More

Better hotel restaurant than usual. Parmesan- truffle fries good, unusual. Garlic bread starter very good. Polo Saltimboca had good flavour but chicken rather dry. Could have used a buttermilk brine. Good ambience. Cod starter very good. Glass of white wine pricey for the quality.

If any of the chefs are Italian they should be ashamed! Ordered garlic bread to start which was average. Had a good stone bake on it but the flavour was lacking. Then had Bombardini Carbonara which doesn’t deserve to be called a carbonara. Firstly the...pasta was over cooked, would fall apart if you picked it up. Secondly the carbonara was purely cream. No egg yolks. Lacking in flavour and watery consistency. Plenty of pancetta which was good. Finally a minor point but a bit strange to put a pasta from the south of Italy with a dish from the middle. Didn’t stay for dessert as I don’t trust them to make them properly. Wouldn’t eat here again.More

We stayed in the Clayton before an early morning flight and we’re ready for a meal after a few hours on the road. Hotel bar was busy so staff recommended the Italian Kitchen. A real oasis In a very busy hotel. Menu is limited but...a nice choice of food. Service was very good and we got our drinks and food served in good time. Two of us had the Caseerecce all’s Norcina which was excellent. Our son had the pizza which was also very good. Nice food with a few Moretti and a nice glass of wine in a relaxed environment. Would definitely recommend if staying in the Clayton.More

Do not use the restaurant, or just order the pizza. My cod in tomato sauce was not good. Staff were fine but this was the worst meal during a two week stay in Ireland.
