Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Where I was staying was only steps away from this chip shop. They had there eating in sorted for Covid and there was usually a que for a table. It was that good, my husband and I got a fish, burger and a small chip each and discovered that a small chip between us would have surficed. Staff were lovely and friendly. A good eating place if you don't want to book for dinner

Melly' s has the best chips in Donegal, in fact probably the best we've tasted since moving to Ireland. We are regulars to the cafe and takeaway . I am veggie, and they do have a couple of veggie options, would be great to see it extended. Husband loves the kebabs.

My wife and I, visiting northwest Ireland in 1993, (We had to use July 2023 as our visit time, in order to send this review !) had lunch at Melly's , and ordered the fish and chips. Whether it was the type of fish, or the preparation, it was the best tasting fish we had ever had. From that day forward, wherever we have fish and chips, be it back home in Canada, or throughout Europe or the US, when asked to comment on the fish, we say that while it may be very good, or even very very good, it isn't as good as Melly's in Killybegs, Ireland !!

Me and my partner went for lunch today at the mellies because of all the good reviews, however, the food was very disappointing. The scampi I ordered had a weird taste and everything was too greasy. It even upset my stomach afterwards.

We visited this cafe on our staycation in Co Donegal. It was so uninviting, the staff were so rude and unhelpful. Everything is disposable so if you sit in you get disposable cutlery, cups etc. Such a waste and so bad for the environment. I understand that circumstances are difficult but that's no excuse for ignorant and rude staff. It just seemed they were too lazy to be bothered even trying to be more environmentally friendly by washing dishes for sit in customers. They wouldnt even do a slice of toast for the kids. Very disappointed. Wouldnt reckon

We called in for 3 fish suppers with a drink each and it came to nearly €40.
The food is served in boxes and plastic knives and forks are given (I can only assume this is because they couldn’t be bother to wash up)
When dealing with the general public you do expect a certain level of people skills which I just did not see.
I asked for a bottle of coke and Fanta
They girl gave me a can of coke and a bottle of Fanta with no glasses.
I explained that I had asked and paid for a bottle of coke I asked if we could have glasses as well please with ice.
Two glasses came down with no ice and my bottle of coke.
At all times I was not once greeted with manners nor personality.
I was very disappointed with the experience and I think attention to detail and customer care are required.

Family of four ate here today, we spent €37 on scampi and chips and threw all in the bin outside. Scampi was frozen processed muck but costed the same as fresh fish n chips that their neighbours charge, unfortunately they were closed.
I wouldn’t be posting here if they didn’t charge so much, very disappointing!

Terrible battered sausages they are like cocktail sausages battered and for the price of €10 for 6 cocktail sausages battered I think that’s a rip off.
I also asked for a tray of curry sauce €3.50 and got a dip.
Won’t be back asked for salt and vinegar as well and chips had none on.
First time ever leaving a food review but I found it that bad I had to.

Sea Shack was closed local recommended Mellys. Worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. Burnt dried out fish and chips that were fried a day or two days before. Awful.

Food was decent but a mean member of staff left a bad taste. They don’t like or appreciate custom from the North of Ireland and insisted on scamming us out of nearly 7 pounds due to making up their own exchange rate which was not correct. Another member of staff quoted the correct rate but was contradicted by this mean member of staff who insisted that their personal rate was 8% lower. Would not return due to meanness and bad attitude which is frankly discriminatory towards Northerners, didn’t realise we are still living in the 80’s as second class citizens!

My wife and I called in here on a whim and found a hidden gem. I had the best fish supper I’ve had in a loooong time. Freshly cooked, non-greasy fish and chips. My wife had chicken and chips and enjoyed it just as much. We had a chat with one of the staff on the way out who recommended somewhere for a drink too. What else do you need?
Very welcoming, very friendly, and great food. Highly recommended.

There was nowhere else open so we ended up at Mellys. The fish and chips arrived looking a bit soggy but we were delighted to be tucking into the lightest, crispiest batter and lovely fluffy chips. It is a cafe so we weren't expecting silver service but everyone was polite and friendly.

The battered fish and chips was delicious, crispy and generously proportioned. The onion rings were crispy and tasty as well. The staff was very friendly.

We celebrated a birthday on premises and the staff was simply the best. The fish special was terrific and the chips crunchy. The restaurant is a great find with a view of the harbor.
