Delicious food Lovely seating and staff Ordered the crab avocado sandwich with soup and the prawn tocos we thought both were delicious and the coffee was great too. You can also order bottled craft beer if you like. Thanks for a lovey lunch

3 of us had lunch on a misty summer's day in Ahoy. Had a seat in the new extension of the café with a grandstand view of the port. Two of us relished the calamari salad and the third enjoyed the superfood salad with chicken. All were promptly beautifully presented as well as being composed of the freshest ingredients. Staff were really friendly, efficient and grateful for our custom in the kind of way that indicates that they take great pride in what they do. We will be back!

Another outstanding food spot, courtesy of Trip Advisor’s helpful reviews. We arrived in the middle of a downpour but the welcome was warm which made up for the misty and murky views across the water. I had the Mexican Chicken wrap; it was stuffed with sriracha chicken, roasted red peppers and something that I think was quinoa. Whatever it was, it gave me a pleasant hum from just the right amount of spice. Others in the party were impressed by the homemade roasted red pepper and tomato soup and a ham and cheese toasted sandwich. Portions were generous but we managed to find a corner for a coffee and the best Rocky Road I’ve had in years (chock full of large marshmallows, biscuit pieces and topped with white chocolate chips and drizzle). Service was efficient and polite, the wait staff managing a fairly busy lunchtime without any sign of problem. If you end up in Killybegs, this cafe is the first place I’d head for.

Was excited about this place reading the reviews and been dog friendly. Oh was I wrong, arrived sat on patio with just one other table with our two dogs. Extremely hot day so asked politely for a bit of water for the dogs as the dog bowl that was there looked like it had been there from last summer, silly me as took four attempts. The service was either under poor management or clueless, two waitresses visited the table beside us and didn’t even bother to take the two orders at a time which is pretty standard in a busy restaurant. 20 minutes later order was placed, pancake stack with just syrup and crispy bacon, simple right? Came loaded with fruit and cream, side of crispy bacon well it looked like it was steamed hours ago, partner had eggs Benedict with country ham. Hard poached eggs, dribble of hollandaise sauce and a scraps of ham that would generally go in the dog bowl and served on a burger bun. And to clarify yes it was busy inside but that consisted of about 30 people and 3 waitress so not an excuse.

We arrived just after 12 noon and were quickly seated. Orders also taken in good time and we received our drinks shortly after ordering. Food followed about 20 minutes later. Both of us had ordered soup on the side of our dishes, but unfortunately these had to be sent back as they were nowhere near hot enough. On the plus side, the soup was delicious, as was the crab and avocado on sourdough which I also had. Prices, I would say average - just over €30 for 2 of us - this included a tea and a coffee. I would, however return.

The pancakes are highly recommended, unlike so many other places, they are freshly made. I ordered a latte at the same time as my pancakes and was just finishing the coffee as my breakfast arrived. I ordered a second latte and by the time I had finished my food it still hadn’t appeared. Waited another five minutes and then went inside to pay. I remarked to the lady who took my second order that the latte never arrived and she asked if I wanted one to take away. I remarked that it would be a welcome gesture if they comped me the latte that I had actually received. The woman at the till said we’ll do it this time…I remarked to her that it was my first time in the café, given my experience that it could well be my last time and that if the gesture was made so begrudgingly that I would rather pay. I would quite happily have paid for both coffees had I received both and didn’t get up this morning with the intention of blagging a complimentary coffee from Aroma. It was their mistake, own up to it and either make the gesture with good grace or don’t make it at all. 5 Star rating if the service was as good as the food and the lovely out side seating area on such a glorious morning. However, I left with a very bad taste in my mouth.

I tried this place shortly after it opened as I had heard about it in local press etc. that experience was not good. Now around sixish years later it's no better in my opinion. The food is bland and tasteless, the staff are ok if they're not busy, if they are you will experience some missing items or a long wait. The prices are high and to be honest not worth it. Take my advice and give it a miss. I don't know how they get all the excellent reviews. I won't be giving it a third review.

The cafe is lovely and the staff are very friendly. However, the service or more accurately the waiting time is appalling. When my breakfast eventually arrived the fried egg was hard and although it was replaced the overall wait had ruined the experience. The food was OK although the toast was cold and the sausages were deep fat fried. Breakfast stressed me out and I won’t being saying Ahoy again!

We waited 15 to 20 minutes after seating before we even got a drink order after seeing several people served who arrived after we did. Our waitress was very rude and said we should be patient. Our fish was fresh, but batter was greasy and fries were undercooked. Local beer was like awful domestic American. I don't understand how this restaurant got a glowing review on Google.

Firstly I have to say that I have had some great experiences here previously when visiting with family some of whom are vegetarian. I visited again quiete recently and was disappointed. It's possible I ordered the wrong thing (the BALT) which is a BLT with Avacado but I asked for it without Avacado. I was served this with raw bacon, just looked like it was shown the grill. I have never b4 sent food back to the kitchen before, but I'm sorry to say I did just that. They brought it back having cooked it for a further 30 seconds so still barely edible. I'm hoping I visited on a very busy day and that they were short staffed. I will give this cafe another chance when next in the area, because of previous experience. Would be a pity to see it not do well.

Called in for lunch on our way to staying in Kilcar and so glad we did!! I ordered the seafood chowder and my wife the calamari and chips, both absolutely delicious and totally filling. For the quality the price’s were fantastic and the staff very attentive. Totally worth a visit!!

Had takeaway fish and chips, really looking forward to this as had a long walk on beach, unfortunately the batter on the fish we found really unpleasant. There was a herb I think was sage might be wrong but something very strong and really not needed. Why mess with fish and chips it was not cheap, maybe some people don’t mind the taste but not for us totally spoiled it, just stick to a really good batter.

We had visited Ahoy some years ago and thought it very good with attentive staff and very good food. On this visit for lunch we found that neither the service nor the food was as good. The BALT (bacon, avocado, lettuce and bacon) sandwiches were a particular disappointment with undercooked bacon, very mushy avocado and overly hard bread. My own Italian chicken sandwich was mediocre at best. We will not be back.

I stopped in Ahoy Cafe for Tea and a Scone, when I read the black board that Ahoy was serving Buttery Pancakes with Lemon and Sugar, I so recall both Grandmother’s making this wonderful treat on Shrove Tuesday, of course, I immediately changed my order, and then Claire Keeney shared the N.Y. Times article that was written about Ahoy Cafe and the Buttery Pancakes with Lemon and Sugar that was posted today. Buttery Pancakes With Lemon and Sugar Recipe from Ahoy Cafe Adapted by Matt Haines The Buttery Pancakes were absolutely delicious! Well Done, Ahoy Cafe

The atmosphere in this restaurant is one of relaxed cool with gorgeous views of Killybegs. If you are looking for rapid, fired in front of you food in hurry this is not the place. Its a place to catch up with friends, sip a coffee and eat gorgeous modern food. Staff are helpful and polite and the food is top class and I could not get over the price we paid for what we got, it was one of the most reasonable meals we have ever had. Coffee is also excellent and a special mention to the lemon drizzle cake.
