Selling old produce at a premium price:
Bakeries are known for their fresh produce and with hassets branding itself as an artisan bakery should be ashamed for selling old stale produce.
I arrived Monday morning, expecting the best and freshest bakes.
I ordered a sausage...roll, 2 danishes and a honeycomb cheese cake.
The sausage roll I believe was around 4e, it was clearly more than 2 days old, stale pastry and dried sausage meat. Clearly not up to a bakeries standard of selling fresh food. And tasted like lemons, so I’m assuming it was sitting next to some lemon dessert in the fridge for some time.
Honeycomb cheesecake was about 15e, looked amazing but the base was that of a dessert made 2-3 days ago, the crumb base has lost its freshness, was not crumbly nor buttery, so I would safely assuming no real butter used in the base but margarine, charging premium price while using cheaper ingredients. We did not finish the cake on the Monday, but the following day the cake had already began to spoil, still edible but started tasting a bit sour.
The two danishes where fresh thank goodness, nice light and crispy pastry as one would expect from a bakery.
Seems like hassets has lost it’s heart when it comes to many of the bakers values, freshness and quality. Seems they’ve focused more on the commercial end having established a name for themselves and lost the true artisan way. Real pity.More
