Popped into the blackbird after a walk. The pub has a brilliant beer garden that can be fully covered if it rains. We had food from the food truck in the beer garden. Would recommend the scampi and fish and chips , absolutely delicious!

Visited the Blackbird pub and Field Kitchen for lunch. It’s advertised as dog friendly which is a bonus. Pub itself is cute and the young staff were friendly. Sat out back, got a menu. The “ restaurant is basically a food truck. Tempura prawns were...on menu so I asked how many came in a serving. Woman in truck said we don’t have prawns today. ( so maybe don’t have them on the menu then…..). Bit of a shame as ballycotton is known for its seafood. We ordered chicken fillet and chips. MIL had fish and chips. They were served in polystyrene cartons and food was average at best. So very disappointing. It’s chipper food but much more expensive. 13.50 for fish and chips. 8.50 for the chicken burger and chips were 3.50. Don’t know if we caught them on a bad day but not at all friendly in the food section. Kinda felt like the woman in the food truck didn’t want to be there. On the dog friendly side, no offer of water for the dog which is always a nice touch. They could definitely do more with this place. Put on some music to create an atmosphere and get friendlier staff (again pub staff were nice, food ppl not so much) the food part is a separate “ business” so you pay separately for drinks and food. At least now I know to pass on the food if there ever is a next time …..More

Visited for a second time and couldn’t wait to return. Really enjoyed the live music which was unexpected. Food was really enjoyable. I had Plaice Goujons which were amazing. Both my children had Chicken Goujons which were really good. Musician was entertaining and we all...had a laugh. Good fun had by all.More

This place has been on my list of places to try since I moved to the area in jan. So yesterday we visited with my partner and her parents who were over from Wales. I had heard that this was a great gastro pub…. I...couldn’t have been more disappointed. 49 euro for 3 polystyrene plates of fish gougons and chips and one chicken gougons…. Which was basically 2 gougons of each…. I’ve had much better chipper food… I hope this place gets back to doing gastro pub food soonMore

Based on other reviews I looked forward to having a lovely meal . However we quickly changed our minds when despite the chalk board displaying lovely options we were told that we could have chicken or beef burgers air goujons. We had ordered and paid...for drinks at this time . The dirty glass didn’t impress-or the warm bottled beer ( taken from a cooler) . We visited the loos too, which could have done with a clean . This place has great potential and the set up is great lots of staff walking around need to be put to work doing basic housekeeping.More

We were very disappointed with our lunch at the Blackbird. After a friendly greeting at the bar we went through to the field kitchen. We ordered our drinks and sat down. We were then told the limited choice and we had fish goujons and chicken...goujons. What came our were 2 small pieces of fish or chicken and some chips. I felt it was very expensive for what you got. There are many delicious food trucks in the local area which we would use in the future.More

This is a great pub with a great atmosphere. You order your food at your table and pick it up at the food truck in the courtyard ( which more and more places seem to be doing!) I had the monkfish scampi, which was succulent...and delicious and my husband had the fish and chips in a lovely light batter. We later returned here for a nightcap and had a jolly night here!More

Were staying locally for a few days and called in on spec for some lunch. We were greeted warmly and seated in a great outdoor area which had a retractable roof ( in case it rained). You order/pay for your drink at the bar and...it is delivered to your table immediately. Same process for food except order is taken at table and you are provided with a buzzer which lets you know that food is ready. You then pay/collect from a separate area. We ordered monkfish scampi with fries together with prawns and fries. Both dishes were delicious. Was really busy and while we managed to get a table immediately we would certainly book next time. Great locationMore
