Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came for lunch and enjoyed a typical Costa Rican meal. We both had the vegetable casada. We had tried to come on Sat eve but they closed early as they had so many people earlier on, I guess they ran out of food.

Complete and perfect experience. Went to La Peña for lunch with my family and the experience was more than perfect. From the host with a warm welcome, the Tucán who came to eat some banana just on our side, the food reminded me the flavor...of my childhood in my home… flavors were just great. Portion size…. Be ready to eat, half portion of rice with chicken can easily feed 2. And finally prices are way below of the average. 3 people, overfilled with food, 13500 colones (beverages included). I’ll be back for sure!!!More

Was recommended by a local as a spot nearby for some local food near the dominical area. I had the fish Casado and my husband had the Cantonese rice, both were delicious and made to order. It’s a true family restaurant with careful attention to...the food. I will be back again for another mealMore

Our favorite soda. The food is always fresh and very tasty, service is very good and the staff is very nice. We've been here a couple of times and have never failed. The best guacamole I've ever eaten. Excellent taste!

Our bus broke down on the way between two other places and we walked up the hill to find this place purely by accident. As we sat down we saw the hundreds of names signed by travellers on the furniture and wooden slates showing that...this was a popular place to visit. We ordered food and the portions were big! There were two sizes listed on the menu against each item and we assumed they'd cheekily given us the bigger sizes but oh no - these were the standard portions... I can see why this appeared to be so popular with Americans. The food was also tasty!More

I came up here to use the internet and eat while attending an online meeting. The pineapple shake was tasty! Guacamole was scrumptious and generous, and the fish dish was super! I liked how the menu was quite 'open-ended' i.e. I did not want a...big fish dish, so the owner gave me a smaller dish with salad and rice. The only thing that got me was the conversion to dollars. My advice is not to use USD here but just use Colones. The reason is the exchange rate goes down to CRC520 = USD1 which usually is 550. I was taken aback slightly, but when the owner explained to us (he can't speak English so my friend had to translate) it was because he normally doesn't accept dollars in big bills (I had $100) but did so just for us. It was also expensive for them to change and deposit the dollars in town, because of the gas expense - which is expensive in Costa Rica.More

This is hands down the best food in Costa Rica. Angel and her husband are wonderful and the food couldn't be more delicious. The service is also impeccable. Must go!

This is a great little mom-and-pop place between one of the major cities in Costa Rica and the beaches. It's located in a quaint little mountain town, the food is some of the best in the area. And the coffee is absolutely amazing, way better...than the other down the road. Highly recommend if you're in the area swing by and grab a cuppa coffee or some amazing foodMore

My office is located next to Soda Peña and I have eaten here regularly for years. Never once been disappointed in the least. Angel Mira's (the owner) chicken casado is to die for. I do ATV and rappelling tours and often take groups there for...lunch. Everyone has been totally satisfied and many are so awed by the food that they take pictures of it. The owner's son is a closet Saprissa (fútbol) fan, but don't hold that against him. :-)More

The food here was incredible. It was the best Costa Rican we had on the trip. The gallo pinto and the batido smoothies were incredible. Some in our group said the scrambled eggs had too much salt but my fried eggs were perfect. The owners...are really nice. All the locals recommended this place too. Seating is limited. It might be closed for dinner. On Tuesdays you can hit this place and the Farmer's Market across the street.More

This place is a gem in the rough. It is a Mom and Pop restaurant where they do all the cooking and wait the few tables. The food is out of this world and very reasonably priced. If you get the chance I highly record...you eat here.More
