Very authentic bar in San Telmo with a rustic and old feel. Also serve light meals and sallads. Average service. Cappuccinos were accepable. Hot sandwiches were not so good. Pretty bad and disgusting restrooms.

VERY cool old bistro on the square. Classic table service (one waiter takes care of the whole place). Old pictures of celebrities adorn the walls. Old time decor. Classic little spot. Sit down, relax, let the world pass by. Sandwiches were good. Beer (Chop) was cold, tasty and hit the spot. Perfect after a day of walking.

Enjoy a really authentic local bar, cafe and restaurant. Skip the Starbucks in the opposite of the street and go to this place to enjoy your coffee, drink and food. Very nice atmosphere, nice people and great food. You cannot miss it. ;-) Enjoy!

The first time we were here, we each ordered ham and cheese sandwiches. Each order was actually two thin sandwiches...which was entirely too much, especially when they were just okay. We brought the leftovers home. Today we stopped there because I saw a woman in the window drinking a peach shake. I echoed her order and was not disappointed. My... More

We undertook a walking tour of San Telmo and at the end of this we sat down for a quick drink in this bar. Felt really relaxed and full of atmosphere. We had a nice bottle of red as well as. Couple of local beers. Drop in, sit down, have a drink, relax

I went there with four friends on a Saturday evening to have a classic snack or "merienda". The quality of the waiter service left much to be desired. The croissants were of a very low quality taking into account that Buenos Aires is the city with the best croissants in Argentina. The coffee with milk came with sugar so we... More

Very pleasant authentic retro bar on Calle Defenso. Good for a coffee stop to watch the world go by. Nice little almond biscuits gratis.

I ate at this restaurant on August 24, 2016 for the first time. To be honest, I first visited on August 23rd but the restaurant is CASH ONLY. I had just arrived on August 23rd late at night and did not have Argentine pesos yet. I returned the next morning on August 24th for breakfast of Coffee and 3 croissants... More

Our Finance Director in Argentina recommended that I visit this bar because of the authentic nostalgia associated with the establishment. Have to say that the locale did not disappoint, felt like I was being transported back to yesteryear and some black and white Fellini movie from the 1950s (wrong country I know). Highlights: just walk through the door and the... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
