The venue is small, the menu is limited, but they do not disappoint. The food was incredible and everything we tried was amazing. The wine list is also small, but well-chosen. Our waiter was able to make recommendations for wine based on our food choices and he paired our desserts with the most amazing dessert wine! It was one of... More

Just off the main tourist drag of Florida, this amazing restaurant has wonderful ambience, really really great local cuisine and eclectic small menu, a long and good wine/bar list, friendly and very unobtrusive service. Definitely worth a visit but make reservations or go on the early side...we had an amazing dinner at 630 pm

With a pie postal based on the Patagonian cuisine, this restaurant located at San Martin street is a quite nice place to envoy a great food and wine for a good price. Nothing amazing, but very fair. Was completely empty because was early.

If you want a fresh, amazing empanada, rather than one that has been sitting in a bakery case all day, this is the place! We started lunch with one of each of the two featured empanadas and wished for more. Flavorful, moist filling surrounded by a super flaky and crisp pastry. As predicted, the rest of our meal matched the... More

The waiter we had here was wonderful- attentive and informative service with a smile. We all very much enjoyed our food- deer schnitzel (a first for me), slow cooked lamb, salmon salad. Generous portions, lovely wine, very reasonably priced. A delicious complimentary glass of sparkly at the end. We stumbled across this place and are very pleased we did.

We looked at Trip Advisor for resturant suggestions in Buenos Aires. El Federal was a short walk from our hotel. Being the gringos that we are (needing to be up early for work) we got there a bit earlier than is customary for dinner. Nonetheless, Alex took excellent care of us -- His recommendation for the Malbec was spot on.... More

we came right before closing and they were very nice to accommodate our group. The menu is very interesting and creative; portions are small even though the dishes sound large. Wine list is good; prices are typical, but not too high. OVerall we were happy with the food. Service was very good and the atmosphere is of fine casual dining,... More

My wife and I travel all over the world and always book cooking classes. This experience was the best ever! We arrived early and Paula graciously greeted us. We learned how to make empanadas, tamales and Patagonia Rack of Lamb. Paula has real talent in using spices, fresh produce, etc. to make your taste buds dance. After the training we... More

We told the concierge of our hotel we wanted an excellent Argentina dinner and he suggested El Federal. We are so glad he did. The food was superb.. We had the slow roasted lamb and it melted in your mouth. The carrots were so sweet and the sauce was delicious. If we come back to Buenos Aires we will return... More

Small quaint restaurant with a good atmosphere. Service friendly but a little haphazard to start with. However once food ordered everything served on time. We had the lamb dish that was excellent and the portion size I only just managed to eat, hence I did not have dessert. Wine list ok.and prices fair as was the cost of food. Near... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
