It is a very good familiar restaurant serving typical Portuguese cuisine but with a touch of creativity. Examples of items usually available are: cod fish with pork meat, cod fish with corn bread ("bacalhau com migas"), rabbit with pumpkin, cabbage with assorted pork meat ("Couves à D. Prior") and roasted lamb. However, the menu is not the same everyday. The... More

Came across this restaurant reading the inflight magazine on TAP Portugal. Turned out to be a really great recommendation! After visiting the Covent of Christ in Tomar, decided to seek out this restaurant. Luckily for google map, or it would have been impossible to locate the restaurant. Almost gave up a couple of times, but thankfully we did not. The... More

We were treated to typical Portuguese cuisine with friendly staff who went out their way to make our visit memorable. The helpings are enormous and would be impossible to finish in a single sitting. We did not book and so the lunch menu was limited but beautifully cooked and presented. The desserts were basic but delightful. The matriarch chef has... More

Probably one of the best restaurants around, however, it is located a bit outside town. Very good food, though, you pay the price for it but will not be disappointed.

We came to Chico Elias at lunch time with no reservation, but were received very warmly. As we had not reserved in advance, we could only choose from 3 available dishes and the Master cook Maria do Ceu immediately advised us to go for codfish with pork. It sounded very unusual...but it was just VERY VERY GOOD. We followed that... More

an old fashioned restaurant which requires booking ahead (the earlier the better so you can really try all the specialties including rabbit cooked in a pumpkin), but it really pays off. The food portions are VERY generous and absolutely delicious, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is rustic and family-friendly. This is a special place, near another special place, the... More

Because of road closures we had trouble finding Convento de Cristo and stopped at Chico Elias to ask directions. They were very helpful. When we returned after our sightseeing it was 2 PM and they were about ready to close, but they invited us to stay and offered us several choices. We had a wonderful home cooked country style meal... Born 75 years ago as a village tavern, but it was only twenty that Maria do Ceu, when she introduced some of his original recipes that made this restaurant a national reference. The dishes that made this place famous where the ones made in a wood oven. This forces a previous preparation, and can not dispense with the appointment or... More
