This restaurant was called Bird cafe, and then changed its name to Mink and Trout under the same ownership. What a food disappointment! Our table of 4, all are in the food and wine industry, and we were so let down by tonight's performance by a chef, who we know can do better, but we unfortunately never experienced his talent.... We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of our local host. A not too big place serving a limited but nicely composed menu. My choice was a risotto with herring and a mild curry sauce. It turned out to be a well prepared and tasty dish. Worth to mention: The restaurant was warm due to some gas heater while it... More

I ordered the bacon, egg and tomato. The bacon was made up of FAT and a tiny sliver of edible bacon. I sent it back and got my plate back with watery egg and no apology. The service was terrible, we had our coffee cups on the table (empty) for about 30 minute and we had to get up and... More

Went for early dinner after work. No one else in restaurant ...even though we left at 8pm. Small portions that are quiet pricy. If you don't like fish not many options to choose from. Not for picky people.

ordered the mussels for starter and got 1 mussel with what looked like 2 or 3 microwave peas and some sauce in a tiny bowl. the mains was the steak and it seemed to mostly be sinew and very little solid meat. seated outside and the staff was a bit lax with service but we were a large table.

Sometimes you wanna keep a place just to your own because it s so special and cosy. I go there almost every week and if i could every day. It s healthy. Fresh. Looks beautiful in the plate and you can change every day. There are specials and i love the inside. Outside it s also nice under the eucalyptus... More

First visit to Birds which is opposite the very popular Charango which was jammed on Bree St. The restaurant is bright and airy with high ceilings and minimalistic furniture. It was surprisingly quiet with only 2 other couples present during our stay. The food is limited with a choice of 4 starters and 4 main courses. For example the 4... More

This was utterly unexpected while on vacation in Cape Town. We decided with friends to try this place; the restaurant was quite busy, as it was "first Thursday" celebration in the city. The staff managed to find a table for us (cheers for that!). Beyond the welcoming attitude of the staff, the food was very good, well cooked, very balanced... More

Always the first fine meal on arrival in Cape Town. Last night was no exception, crayfish tail in a sublime bisque sauce with subtle beetroot & chalottes, washed down with recommended (Cederburg?) Sauvignon Blanc, incredible starter. Rump steak never tasted so real, small portion but incredible quality, with exquisite rare mushrooms, a symphony of forest flavours.. Home made almond flour...
