We had a birthday last year was lovely and this year came back with a less than average meals. Beef ribs so oily felt ill and the pasta was so over cooked wasn't even pasta. The bread on table was so stale couldn't eat it rather not have it on table at all. The service was bizarre delivered the cutlery... More

Since my first review of The Eatery, we have become regulars there and always manage to spoil some friends to without a doubt the best place for a fine dining experience in Johannesburg. The food continues to surprise even the most sophisticated of diners. The owners are still there to great regulars by name. My only advise is book long... More

What a stunning location with tables on the pavement giving a great ambience. The waiters were good in general but the young manageress is clearly hired for her looks and not etiquette or adequate table demeanor. She rushed us to order and rushed us to get out of there at 9pm..."the kitchen closes at 9"....?! The menu is very limited... More

We had dinner at the eatery and there was nothing to fault. Starter was great, mains were delicious, the desert was superb. There is a selection of wine to suit all tastes. The only problem is that I am physically incapable of eating all of the dishes on the menu in one sitting. The food was so good I would... More

The restaurant is in a side route of the 11th street which is not a real attractive street. The tables are laid with silver and glasses which makes every table looks nice. I was there on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was frequented but not full. Bread, salt and olive oil (which was good) was served while I ordered.... More

Very good restaurant in Benmore where you can find à great menu (the butternut gnocchi are amazing). The ambiance is modern and intimate and the spot is close to some nice bars to enjoy the rest of the night! The only negative thing is that the kitchen close very early, at 9pm!

The food and its presentation was a bit disappointing, I decided on the calamari starter it was tasteless, the menu is plain and did not provide a variety of choice. Staff was friendly and helpful, but that's a about it.

Local knowledge always helps but on this occasion it was a real eyeopener. We went for dinner at this rather simply decorated restaurant where the firework really happened on the plate and in the glass. The food was absolutely world class; an amazing mix of fresh local ingredients, French inspired African cuisine. The wine was fantastic. We will be back.

An average Wednesday evening became a cacophony of laughter as we joined at Eatery Jhb for dinner. The salt and black pepper calamari became a firm favourite in presentation and artistry! Absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious! The fillet steak followed by chocolate fondant is to be recommended! Would our supper club return? Oh yes, yes, yes!

Lovely character and feel to the whole place, could so easily have been in a typical small restaurant in Tuscany (even down to the half-finished feel of the decoration)! Had three courses, all exquisite. I have ticked 'fine-dining' below against 'how expensive', but by international standards it is 'mid-range'.
