Do yourself a favor and have the steak you will thank me later. It is so tender and flavorful. I had never been to AJ's and went on steak special night. Now whenever I want steak I think about AJ's, it is my benchmark. There aren't many in Alaska that compare. Homer has two of the best steaks in the... More

I was thrilled to find such a great place during my trip up north. I was particularly impressed by the truffle fries and strength of the drink. Live music was a nice touch. Would be happy to return!

We have eaten here many times in the summer. They are closed in the winter. We never have any complaints the food is always very good and the staff efficient. In the last two years the restaurant has expanded greatly and now have fish caught in Kachemak Bay for sale in an old fashioned butchers case. Another feature is you... More

If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax - you can get a good glass of wine here, sit by the fireplace and contemplate a nice collection of art/paintings hanging on every wall. The couple times I have been here, have always been able to get in and get a seat readily, also have a nice... More

I have been to Ajs before and had an average experiences but good enough to return occasionally. But this last visit, the server was attentive and informative and somehow the food tasted better because of his input and advise. Drinks were as requested. Very very excellent dinner and so appreciate this visit. The four stars are based on total number... More

Absolutely the best steaks around. Go here and try one, they melt in your mouth. Don't forget to ask for Pretzel Rolls with your dinner!!! Good selection on the menu (seafood and other dishes) and everything we have tried has been excellent. Great staff to boot. This is a regular stop for us and we recommend it to all our... More

We decided to enjoy the New Year at AJ's. The live music was fun. We have a group of 6 and our food came out quick. My steak was great. We love the blue cheese chips and had to order 2 plates for our little group.

We were looking for a nice place to have dinner, being that it's off season in Homer, our choices were limited. Service was excellent, ambience wonderful with a piano player and warm fire in the fireplace! The food was OK at best. Thankfully the Kechemak Bay Mussels were divine! We both had the prime rib special. Both pieces were tough.... More

Dear Pinkey, We were happy to hear that you enjoyed the Kachemak Bay mussels, service and ambience. We aren’t the fanciest place in town but we do pride ourselves in serving up the best quality beef available. Only 2% of the Nations Beef is rated USDA Prime; that tends to be marbled with lots of fat which accounts for its... More

Go here regularly, good meals most of the time, service is typically good, some tables are pretty small for a big guy.

AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.
