Old fashioned mom n pop sorta restaurant with good food, some feisty senoras waitresses and inexpensive delicious food....highly recommended!

I really wanted to like this place. It has a nice old time establishment feel to it, wood decor, framed pictures, leather menu. I ordered casados and it had a long stringy hair buried deep within the food. My girlfriend's glass of Coca-Cola also had a tiny thick hair stuck to the inside of it. I can forgive a hair... More

Friendly and interesting place. Food is good and the spot is quiet while you watch the world go by. Historic

This is a hidden gem in San Jose. It is a local restaurant serving typical tico food in the centre of town at a very reasonable price. We opted for casados (chicken and beef) and they were really good. It is served as a set meal for lunch at around £5 per person including drink and it was very nice.... More

Frozen in time, 100 year old eatery. Popular among locals and visitors. Basic local food and drinks. Will try the coffee and tres leche next time.

this over 100 year old eatery is a pit stop for all. The food is typical American fare mixed with local favorites. You feel like you are taken back in time here, as the decor has probably not changed in 50 years, but that is part of the charm. Not a great value, but good food served properly. Seems like... More

Had dinner at Chelles and enjoyed it. Its not too much on the menu, but you can get Costa Rican basics at reasonable prices - and most of all tasty! I liked the house salsa picante which is on each table and my girlfriend also enjoyed to juices. I can doubtfree recommend Chelles.

Started off well, food was decent, service was good till about 9pm when possibly locals arrived. Had finished dinner and was planning on dessert and another drink and after catching my servers attention not once, twice, or even three times just went straight for the bill request so we could leave. Wouldn't have minded so much if she was crazy... More

Great location right on the pedestrian street. We had great service. Enjoyed their rib meal which includes yucca and salad. They have great condiments on the table and we purchased a bottle of their chelles salsa. And it wasn't expensive.

The food is ok, not bad but also not super good. Just average. I ordered beef+fries and flan. The flan is a quite big piece, hard to finish by myself. The service is quite good though, different from some of the comments.
