Close to it: Volcano Turrialba, Volcano Irazu, Valle orosi. The best rafting tours in Costa Rica. See "Tico's River Adventures"

Beautiful, affordable and safe. I have been to Turrialba twice and just love visiting the little town. Its really a hidden gem that is close to San Jose. Take the time to explore the town and the rafting services available.

The Pacuare River rafting adventure is a must if you go to Costa Rica. The guides of Explornatura were very safety conscious yet your adrenaline can flow.

The town is quiet but the surrounds are quite spectacular, particularly with the volcano being quite active during our visit. If you head up towards the national park you get unrivalled views across the town and surrounds and on a clear day it is an amazing view. We were also lucky to see the volcano still showing signs of activity... More

Turrialba is a very unique area of costa rica. It's high in the mountains and quite hot. Almost 2 hours by bus from San Jose it feels completely different from the capital. Friendly people are all around. Many banks, pharmacies and 1 hospital. You can hike, bike ride, rappel, kayak, and do rafting...basically outdoor sports since it is mountainous. Forget... More

Turrialba is a workers Town, with some clearly visible backsides when it comes to prostitution and limitited economy, but also a very good starting poit for the Pejibaye area, with very nice nature areas, White water rafting and the jungle ruins of the old indian Town Guayabo in the neighbourhood.

Turrialba is considered to be the friendliest place in Costa Rica and when you visit there you will see why. On Fridays and Saturdays there is a Market day called "La Feria" where farmers bring fresh local vegetables, fruits and even the famous Turrialba Cheese. The birdwatching is really great with many species found in the surrounding forested areas. Turrialba... More

If you want to stroll around and see a small town, but not too small, you will enjoy visiting Turrialba. There is not a real central market, but blocks of small shops and stores with everything you will need, except souvenir shops. There are several hotels a drive toward the mountain if you want a nice lunch. The volcano is... More

Very friendly and calm little town. This is the starting point for most of the white-water rafting tours on rio Pacuare and Reventasion. There are nice places to eat and sleep.
